I can't be bothered with the cctv snobs complaining of a Chinese camera system to be honest.... I've had this system a good few years and never had an issue and I've installed around a dozen ....

This one is a heck of a lot better quality ( 3000tvl ) I've installed a fair few in friends pubs etc and at this sale price they are a bargain. You'll need a DVR capable of 2mp not 720p though amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1

It is not correct to say these are hi resolution cams. May be it was fair enough to say this about 10 years ago. These resolutions are obolete now. Piece of junk now a days.

These cameras are 720p I think so won't be an upgrade more of a side shift

A couple of things, how is 1 camera a home security SYSTEM ?
And how is 8000TVL hi resolution !
These aren't worth the components they are made of.
The absolute minimum we fit are 2mp going up to 5mp or 4k.
Like someone else above said, these are 10 year old technology and anyone who thinks these are decent resolution has not seen a decent setup.
These are the systems people fit for about £250 on Facebook and although its sounds a good deal, and to be fair, on a budget its cheap, but to think you can spend £100 more and get a Hikvision setup its not so much of a bargain
Still would like to know how 1 camera is a SYSTEM !

Roll on the argumentative people.....
Here we go...

I doubt the DVR will accept the 2mp camera resolution
This is a good system for the money and they do a cheaper 4 channel version amazon.co.uk/Ton…-17

Hi,

The important thing about the spec is the video standard (in your case TVI) and the resolution (720p) these are both standards in the industry, so if you look for a DVR that supports both or a camera that is the same spec you will be ok. Also if a system is a higher spec I.e. 1080p or 4K then they will usually support lower video standards. (Worth just checking the spec though).

Also nowadays, a lot of systems are what’s know as a 5in1. They support multi standards (TVI,CVI,AHD,IP,CVBS) and are either auto sensing or your just select your require standard in the setup.

There are tons of system on Amazon/eBay etc that will be comparable with your system.

Hope this helps.

For reasons I'll not go into, I know a lot about hikvisions... if you're setting up cameras to view remotely, they are fine... if you're setting up cameras for any sort of detection/monitoring on the hik alone they are a nightmare and regularly just wipe themselves of settings etc.

Aliens are basically hik clones so still have the same rubbish menu system. Never known them to wipe themselves but haven't seen as many.

Agreed they are pretty much the same but the menu and software is completely different.
Alien dont have p2p and also if you ask Sysyem Q about the similarities between the 2 they reckon they are completely different and they build their systems in house

Maybe I'm wrong about the menu systems (I've seen maybe 2 versus 500 hiks) and this is working remotely with them, not in person. I think you can access aliens via ivms? There are a lot of hik clones out there.
The menu is very similar, im completely the opposite, probably done 200+ alien vs 3 hik nvr/dvr
The main difference is that with the alien phone software you can use the same details on unlimited phones without having to add them to the account.
You set it up on the dvr and then everyone uses tge same login details.
Only problem being that although it has UPnP to open the ports, only 70% of the time it works so i have to manually do them. Obviously the P2P illuminates that but then you have to add each user so there are pros n cons with both
I personally prefer Dahua over Hikvision, not had any experience with the Alien stuff though, will have to have a look.

Have a look at IPCamTalk, lots of info and helpful members there including myself

I went with Duhua 2Mp Starlight IP cameras, using Blue Iris as the DVR. Beauty of using IP cams is that you only need to run standard cat5e (or above) cable to each cam, as the cams are all POE, the cable provides the power and data paths. The cams I went with aren't cheap and I went with 2Mp cams as that resolution was the only available with the Starlight sensor at the time. Duhua have recently released 4Mp Starlight cams which I'm now thinking of getting as I do need to 2 extra cams, so will move some of the existing cams around and fit the 4Mp to monitor the driveway.

These starlight cameras are the ones to go for. As this man says, it's not just about resolution, sensor size is very important especially for low light. I have a large mix of hikvision and dahua. at various resolutions up to 4k. Nothing beats the dahuas at night, also they are pretty cheap. No need to waste money on any cameras with 'TVL' in the title.
