Go through topcashback and Find the x4, scroll to the 12 month o2 deal at £36 per month with an upfront payment of £149.99.

As soon as you get the phone, ring o2 to cancel in the 14 day cooling off period and if topcashback pay out, then you have an moto x4 for essentially £99.99

If you're in the market for a phone, and haven't got any big spends coming up like a mortgage etc. Because you will be credit checked by o2.

So easy I've done it myself.
Community Updates
Act within the cooling-off period

If you entered into the contract over the phone, online or on your doorstep, you have 14 calendar days to cancel the contract under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

The cooling-off period starts the day after you agree to go ahead with the service.

If you want to cancel a credit agreement, the Consumer Credit Act gives you a 14-day cooling-off period to cancel the agreement.

Cite the relevant legislation in all your correspondence with the trader when explaining you wish to cancel your contract.

Can you do this on any phone?

There is a select few, and some work out a lot more expensive. But there is quite the choice
Normally Ideal World shopping channel is my go to place for telephones. But actually, this is a really good deal.
Its almost certain that TopCashBack wont pay as the contract would have been cancelled by payment time
Why not do it with the £36 p/m sim and the phone is £149.99

Think about it though, even if tcb don't pay out, you are still getting a phone that is £100 more expensive in most places.
Can you explain how if you cancel the contract you don't have to give the phone back? That's the bit I don't get.

With O2 the phones are not tied in with the contract, you are basically buying the phone and then the SIM contract, this is the reason O2 let you upgrade the phones at any time. As you have bought the phone it's yours so you can cancel the SIM contract within 14 days and keep the phone. Also works with Tesco and I think giffgaff as they use O2.

The sim free and sim only aspects are two different things, you'll have paid for the phone £149.99, then you are in a contract for 12 months, but as with everything these days, you have a 14 day cooling off period in which to change your mind. The contract is then with o2 not cpw. So you ring o2 to cancel.
Very odd that carphone wearhouse have structured their pricing like that. They are sucking up the cost of subsidising the handset (cheaper handset on most expensive plans) when it's o2 that will benefit from the extra contract cost.
I assume carphone wearhouse will be expecting some kind of payment from o2 that will never materialise once the contract is cancelled.
Their loss your gain :-)

How do you know which phones you can do this with? Is it basically any phone on an o2 contract?
Edited by: "price_smasher" 20th Feb
When this deal came around over Xmas for a different phone. To get cashback you had to activate the sim (turn it on and let the texts come through) then call them to cancel. I got the cashback. Cancelled on day 13 of 14.
Sounds more like a scam than a deal....

Agreed....if you get away with it its a deal - if you don't it's an attempted scam.

No, it's in a specific area of the website, under the special offer tab - sim free with sim only deals33297410-LUWpW.jpg
Very poor warranty on battery, CPW only offer 6months. Is CPW aware of a battery working life issue?
This or Huawei p10 lite?

Isn't this 'offer' supposed to work on 1 month simo only? The £36 p/m deal is a 12 month contract.

On the 12 month contract you will be expected to return the handset otherwise they are likely to bill you for it. If you get away with it then great but don't be surprised to get a bill. Thats how it used to work recently, if its changed can you link to where it says you can keep the handset if you cancel under the 14 day policy please?

Follow this link specifically for a guy called moneychop, he's just done this with the pixel 2 on a 12 month, and it turned out he had no problems in the end, he got the pixel 2 for £459, with TCB tracked into his account.

I got a huawei P10 lite with a sim only deal, cancelled within 15 minutes of walking out of the shop under the 14 day cooling off period, I even queried the situation with them on the phone and the lady said the phone had nothing to do with them. TCB went through no problem.

People are so skeptical, instead of asking questions, why don't they just do it.

I can see it looks risky, but I've even posted up a screen shot of the cashback paid! I do think it is likely to be a loophole that gets closed sooner rather than later though.

As far as I can tell, it depends on the financial commitment it implies. I mean I wouldn't do it every day, but I think a couple is probably ok. ***Disclaimer: this thread does not constitute financial advice, the value of your mobile can go down as well as really down, that's how tech prices work***

Thanks for the info, I thought I had to look for the Moto X4 on TCB through Carphone Warehouse as it said at the top of this thread, but anyway wouldn't it take many weeks for TopCashback to pay out the £50 by that time you would have gone past your 14 days notice to cancel.

It takes 3 weeks to get paid off tcb, but it's no guarantee you are going to get it if you do then happy days, but paying £149 for this phone should be sufficient for most people, just don't go into it expecting to get the tcb payout.
