Thanks for the heads up. I'll be heading there first thing.

Aldi one is great and reduced to £34.99 in some stores at the moment and looks to be very similar in manufacture to the Anova excluding the bluetooth function.

Not exactly the same but £50 extra (twice as much) to be able to connect to an app is more gimmicky than a saving seeing that you need to still plug it in, fill bowl with water and that the whole point of cooking at a precise temperature is that the window of the food being good (most examples 4 hours).
n.b. have the anova and love it but would be hard pressed not to recommend the aldi version at that price

So you think the useless BT connection is worth 50 pounds?

I bought it for 50, at 35 its even better. Might just buy a 2nd one

Thanks again for the heads up on Aldi. They were in a glass display unit nowhere near the random assortment of junk they usually sell.

No I never said that, they are different products from different manufacturers. I'm sure they do the same basic job but a Dacia car does the same basic job as a Rolls-Royce, you wouldn't say they were the same though.

You could go the other way and state an Aston Martin v8s is under half the price of the Rolls and therefore fits the bill for the Aldi product.
Of course stating any wand solution is high end in the sous vide market is just a little bit silly. Changing the Rolls to a Ford Fiesta as a comparision to the Dacia would seem more apt for your analogy.

My point was they are different............different brands, different features. You'd expect if you are paying more to get more for your money and maybe more reliablity/durability.
Anyway as ever, it's good to have options. The Aldi one may well do the job as well and last as long, who knows.

Assuming Anova and the Aldi brands are actually manufactured by different manufacturers. The design and fan protection caps are very similar I wouldnt be surprised at all if they are all made in the same factory in china and just sold under different brand names.

I bought the Aldi one at 50 too after looking at the Anova initially. First Aldi one I got was faulty and didnt circulate the water correctly and was very noisy in the pan. The 2nd unit I got was virtually silent and circulates the water perfectly. Aldi had no issues with the return.

I understood your point but when so egregious with the example given I can't help point it out

Also as you bring up reliability and warranty how does that work when the more expensive product with Anova gives you 1 year warranty and Aldi 3 years?

I never mentioned warranty. Are you conflating warranty with reliability/durability?

Conflating isn't exactly the correct term. More reliability and durability of a product (which you did raise) has a direct correlation on the ongoing service costs catered for by the warranty.

Does brings me back to the warranty in relation to those, that I did raise, as to why the more expensive product ,you did state would be expected to have greater reliability or durability, would have the inverse of your predicate demonstrated in each products warranty terms?

Question to myself though is would I really expect a sensible answer from someone that thinks it is reasonable and not lunacy to compare a 6k car to that of a 250k car as a good analogy between comparing a £50 and £100 sous vide wands - time for me to bob on and leave you too it

P.S. others above interested in this item or the cheaper Aldi also consider a vacuum sealer. Some use the water displacement but I personally always find it far easier with a vacuum sealer.

Ah they'll love you on /r/iamverysmart

I would love one of these but can’t afford it at the moment.

I’ve been wanting one for a while but have never had the money to ‘splash’ on it.

Has anyone bought one and have any advice/opinion/whatever?

The Aldi I looked in had the Aldi Sous Vide Wand reduced to £39.99. About 7 left. Quite a few of the boxes had been opened. A couple still had the seal sticker in place. A bit strange the stores are varying the price reduction. Maybe it depends on the manager as to the offered discount?

Lidl stores seem to just do their orange sticker with a standard 30% discount on stuff. The non food discounted items in the Aldi I visited were all different percentage discounts.

Is the Aldi sous vide wand reliable and worth getting?
