What’s wrong with 60% alcohol?

Nothing wrong with it, I’d just prefer to get as high as I possibly can. Had I not had any at all, I would have bought it but I figured that because I now at least have some, I can afford to be choosy and aim to get the 70% ones

Some people say you need 60% and some 70% to be effective at killing Covid.

Tjought anything above 60 percent was fine for covid

CDC recommends using ABHR with greater than 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol in healthcare settings. Unless hands are visibly soiled, an alcohol-based hand rub is preferred over soap and water in most clinical situations due to evidence of better compliance compared to soap and water. Hand rubs are generally less irritating to hands and are effective in the absence of a sink.

WHO recommends higher

Now, scientists in Germany and Switzerland have tested the sanitizers’ effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2.

The first sanitizer comprises:

  • ethanol — 80% by volume (vol/vol)
  • glycerine (also known as glycerol) — 1.45% vol/vol
  • hydrogen peroxide — 0.125% vol/vol
The second sanitizer comprises:

  • isopropanol (also known as 2-propanol or isopropyl alcohol) — 75% vol/vol
  • glycerine — 1.45% vol/vol
  • hydrogen peroxide — 0.125% vol/vol
The researchers exposed SARS-CoV-2 virus particles to each formulation for 30 seconds.

When they tested the subsequent ability of the virus to infect cells in lab cultures, they found that both formulations had inactivated the virus.

The team was led by Professor Stephanie Pfänder, of the Department for Molecular and Medical Virology at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, in Germany.

“We showed that both WHO-recommended formulations sufficiently inactivate the virus after 30 seconds,” says Prof. Pfänder.

Between 60 and 70% is the sweet spot, higher than that make it less reliable at killng the virus. 100% would be completely ineffective. Water is an essential ingredient at killing the virus. If the concentration of alcohol is too high the virus protective membrane would not open up to let the alcohol inside to kill the virus, water opens up the membrane and the alcohol kills the virus.

70% is what you need to kill of the viruses.

Incorrect. The studies say "at least 60%" is effective. In a similar way than a slightly bigger bullet through your brain is no more effective at killing you than one that is 10% smaller.....

Can't compare bullet to viruses.
The brain synergy is just poor.

But ultimately when 60% is proven to kill the virus then 70% is not going to kill it any more.
