Almost nobody needs to take an Antioxidant Supplement (nor any other type of supplement, e.g. vitamins, minerals, protein, etc), unless a doctor recommends it.

The body normally produces the correct levels of everything it needs and the Body's control system Homeostasis, keeps everything at the correct level, neither too high or too low.

If you take extra Antioxidants, the body's control system will notice this and immediately aggressively reduce the Antioxidant levels in the blood, often resulting in a drop in the level below where you started, before you took the supplement. It will then gradually rebalance itself to the optimum level over the next day or so getting back to where you started.

Antioxidants do neutralise free radicals, but the science on has moved on. Free Radicals are now good and not bad, they (probably) don't cause premature aging, but are instead used as chemical markers help our systems repair us and keep us healthy. So you don't want to remove them.

I hate the way we are marketed useless stuff that makes us worse than we naturally are! You can have too much of a good thing. You are literally pissing your cash away as your body stresses itself unnecessarily getting rid of any excess stuff you take in, often in your urine.

Easy to understand article about why we don't need antioxidant shakes here.

The body only produces two vitamins D and K. Straight up can think of sodium as a mineral that the body requires. If the body produces everything it needs then why do we bother eating and drinking! While I agree with the control side that mostly too much will just be expelled by the body.

Free radicals are TERRIBLE! They’ll react with almost anything in an aggressive manner they have many proven links to cancer and should NOT be seen as a good thing under any circumstances!

"The body normally produces the correct levels of everything it needs".
There in lies the need for these supplements, because sometimes things aren't normal.

I agree. Eat a balanced diet and if you're healthy, your body will get everything it needs to maintain itself. You should only need supplements if a doctor finds a problem. If you take in too much of most things, you'll probably put stress on the body's waste management systems as it tries to remove the excess.

Yeah, I said in my post that if you've problems, a doctor will give supplements.

If you're eating an unbalanced diet, you'd probably get better results by eating better than spending money self medicating on supplements.

If you're healthy and eating a balanced diet, you might be doing more harm than good taking unneeded supplements, as your body needs to get rid of the excess to maintain balance.

Just who eats a balanced diet these days? Most "fresh" vegetables have been harvested days before arriving at a supermarket by which time any vitamin content has long since gone. Most grain for bread comes from Europe as a result of which it lacks selenium a known anti-cancer agent.
