Can there be a processor held in stock by Amazon for longer than this ?

the price isn't relevent , and they well know it. It's going nowhere.

Artfully aged by master shelf stockers for 10 years or more it has notes of yeast, dust-mite, and wistful yearning to be free.

Adopt one today, look how sad it is behind those bars.

Maybe overkill with the 800fsb.

Can I upgrade a Mac Pro with this?

Outstanding dual-core performance
With its two execution cores, the Intel® Core™ Duo processor is optimized for multi-threaded applications and multitasking. You can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications - such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching programs - while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background.

Smarter, more efficient designs
Intel® Smart Cache helps create smarter, more efficient cache and bus design for enhanced performance, responsiveness and power savings.

Perfect for casual Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) gamer.

LOTRO doesnt like modern cpus, especially i7's; but stick a 10 year old server chip in to replace an even slower Core 2 than this, and it flies!!

Almost cracks 4-figures on the Passmark benchmark suite!

Unfortunately Macs aren't compatible with components as modern as this.

You've waited 10 years but the time is now and you gotta have it, next day prime delivery!

Must be some of the last examples still in captivity.....

Joking aside, there's business and public sector organisations out there with applications which will only run on specific hardware platforms and one power spike away from complete it obliteration - unfortunately if they're that stupid, they won't have the presence of mind to stock up!

That's a good idea you have just given me.
I've ordered the last 2 and along with the 5 1/4 floppy drives in going to sell the Pentagon a new NBM system upgrade at circa 8 billion dollars a pop. (I'll make them pay for pinching brexit trade, and like Amazon will not pay US taxes on the deal)

I honestly thought this was for antique silicon sealant when I saw the thread title!

I know of a company who employed someone to trawl ebay for 286 and 386 PC's to keep their machines running, I think they're still using them now. There's always someone in need.

I've worked on an IT project years ago where one of the team actually did something similar, they were actually looking for kit older that that from Eastern Europe as some of the key infrastructure components could not fully be replicated on modern tech

I had to put down a laptop with something from this era recently, no 64bit support means it's stuck on old ubuntu versions or missing up to date chrome, can't remember exactly what the software I wanted was.

That really isn't that antique....

Released January 2006.

So, Come on guys. I have run some big PC companies 'in my time' (being the critical words). This was a smoking processor. Had a shelf life of over 6 months in reality, before Moore's law (look it up, I knew him personally! Yes, I am that old) sadly made it redundant to the marketplace. RIP The quality PC market!

my e2180 overclocked to 2.7ghz has been serving me perfectly fine for coming up 10 years... running windows 10, 4GB ram, 128gb ssd and plays everything I own in my steam library and more... value for money 10/10

Just two remaining that need adoption now.

A guy I worked with, in his previous job, worked on a computer where there were only two left in the country, the other one was in the British History museum.

Cheers op ordered 5:)

lol

This is like the opposite of deal. An anti-deal...

we have lots of machines at work that use connections like parallel ports and others no longer made that keep a multi million pound company going. one laser is ran off a pc running windows 95

Dual core peasants

Not a classic like 3dfx stuff though
