I'm guessing damaged packaging - as it says on the listing....

This is a good gadget, it really gets our knives sharp. It has a great suction cup and is really easy to use. Only drawback is that it removes quite a bit of metal from our knives, I would be cautious about keeping them sharpened with this on a regular basis. We tend to use this to really sort our knives out and then use the normal steel in between. We have Henkel's, which were quite pricey, hence my concern.

Does anyone know if you could sharpen a hand axe with one of these please? Serious comment, it's for chopping kindling for a chimnea.

i don't think it will fit, better off with a cheap stone to do it. even better a grinder

Got one of these & I like it.

Always take it away on UK cottage holidays to sharpen up the provided knives.

At home, I use it to get an edge on my older slicers and then finish with a steel.

Had mine for over two years, and it gets used a lot.

Yet it still works as if new.

Heat added

These are that good, they could even sharpen wayne rooneys brain. Hot.

Thanks ordered. Let the spree commence....oO

good for cheap knives but do not use them on decent expensive knives it will ruin them

I ordered one last time. This gadget is fantastic, really gets the knives properly sharp - even good quality ones! Just ordered another one for Mum!

Wouldn't use this on my Shun or Global knives. Japanese knives require a 10-15 degree angle for sharpening. Use a Whet stone for the main sharpen and a ceramic steel for a fine edge.

Doesn't look bad and a good price.

Great! Next time the missus starts pushing my buttons I won't need to go through the hassle of lacing up a pair of boxing gloves - I'll just slide open the kitchen drawer & point to this nifty little tool.

Fine for cheap knives, for quality knives using this would be like putting a Ferrari through a Tesco car wash.

Would this work for something like a lawn mower blade?

good sharpening shouldn't take much metal off. OK coarse sharpening like with a diamond steel will take a bit but then sharpen with a normal metal steel that basically reshapes the blade and then if you are really fussy finish off with a leather strop.

for an axe use a grinder.

"Sharpens hardened knives (e.g. Global, Sabatier)"

You'd have to be f***ing insane to drag your Global knives through this thing...
Apart from the fact it takes much too much metal off the knife, Japanese knives, like Global, have a finer angled edge (10-15 degrees, compared to 20-25 degrees on your usual knives). So it would completely ruin them.

EDIT: Didn't even realise someone said the same thing as me above, hehe.

+2
It gets cheap knives razor sharp, I can take the hairs of my arm after dragging one through this a few times.
Not suitable for good knives, of course

Hot. Ordered. Thanks

Awesome tool - agreed not to use on expensive kit, but with this bad boy, cheap knives are all you need and sharpen them until there is no steel left, which will be a very long time ;-)

Price has gone up to £9.69

If you want a decent sharpener, and really don't want to use a steel/whet stone/etc, spend a decent amount and get one of these -
amazon.co.uk/Shi…1-8

A few people complain about them breaking, but they're plonkers that think you need to put pressure on the knife to sharpen it (the weight of the knife itself is enough).
And these are actually suitable for good quality knives (if you buy good knives, the steel is harder and you'd need to hone them less often anyway).
