Hi
Does anyone know how to make "sticky rice"? If anyone has been to Thailand or the likes then you will know the rice I mean. I have never been able to replicate it. If someone knows what I might be doing wrong, what I need to add,or even better a machine that I can basically put rice in and 20 minutes late have lovely fluffy sticky rice, please let me know. Thank you

Hi Sammy
TY for the reply. Just watched the youtube one...3 hrs to steam! Maybe that's where I'm going wrong,I was wanting it as quick as a pot noodle, but that doesn't look like it will be possible...H&R

Chuck some wallpaper paste in the pot :giggle:

Oh and don't use parboiled (easy cook) as it won't have enough starch.

Its good rice if somebody is after normal rice (extra long grain kinda) but Basmati is still very expensive. Even Tesco and Asda have recently increased there price for it!!!

only 5kg bag showing.

This variety of rice is cheap and cheerful and only used for the sake of having rice if your not bothered about the taste., if it was Basmati then it would be HOT.

rice has gone up in price just like flour etc and petrol and it is similar to basmati rice as it says in description

My mums wicked at sticky rice, rice balls we call them haha.
Good deal but i just got a 20kg bag afew weeks ago and havent opened it. So i think we are good for awhile
Cheers

Let me explain as I came close to buying this a couple of months ago...but didn't. The reason is in the FUSION tag; it is a mix of Basmati & Long Grain rice but does not give any description of the proportions in the mix.

As you can get long grain rice for as little 43p a kilo, there's no point in buying this at 99.9p a kilo. Might as well buy 'proper' Basmati rice (cheapest is at Netto - 10 kilos for £11.99)...of course, the biggest problem is we don't know whether Basmati rice is really 100% Basmati.

But stay clear of this one as it's NOT a HOT deal.

That probably means there are none in stock in your local store.
It's available at mine.

its not really about technique, you have to buy "glutinous" rice.

You can get similar effects with normal long grain rice (not basmati, and not "easy cook" par boiled rice) just normal stuff, use a little extra water.

As for the offer, its indeed great if I can find some.

Basic commodities like rice have rocketed in the supplying countries, due to many things be them fuel costs, bad harvest, extreme weather etc..

The price has very much trickled down to us lot.

Rice has always been around £20 a sack for us, but the last one we got was £38.

Thats a big increase, it doesnt really matter for us, but in the countries where it comes from, goverment workers are in food que's and skipping meals etc..

You need to get yourself a rice cooker mate - I wouldn't be without one personally - bung in your rice and water, give it a stir, and pop it on - perfect rice in about 20 mins, and it stays warm until you need it. Every home should have one!

the best rice iseither laila or tilda , brought 20kg from southall last week £31
but you get wot u pay for ( this stuff doesnt turn into rice pudding after you have cooked it )

Do Tesco do 10KG of Thai fragrant or jasmine rice. Prefer this to Basmati.
Always seem to have to buy at Stevenage market as can never find in my local tesco.

I was thinking if they can send Condoleezza Rice to country's with food crisis it might bring down the cost of RICE at least

good deal. heat added.

Bought it... You have to be careful when cooking it or it will end up as a soup... I use the "dry" method rather than the rice-cooker...

Coming up as £13.98 now

"Dry method" means filling up the pan and boiling it on high heat until the water has nearly evaporated and then you turn the heat right down and cook until the water has disappeared.

You then end up with a burnt pan and black burnt rice all over the bottom of your pan..Not very clever methinks..

Put water in and simmer gently, don't burn the hell out of it..Some people on here need to learn to cook..No wonder there are so many chefs on the TV nowadays...They are all trying to get people to cook properly, it obviously isn't working..

^^ Blame the supermarkets and the microwave/pre processed junk mentality most people have
