Apollo Radar Mens Mountain Bike £149.99 Halfords

Been down to Halfords a few times looking for a bike for my son and this one is really reduced at the moment, ok its not a TREK or Boardman or one of the other popular makes but having ridden it and given it a good looking over for the price i think it s pretty good buy.

Personally I prefer thumb shifters to the handle bar type but for a growing lad who seem to grow out of every bike we get within 12 months it should be a good purchase.

Great bike to buy if you want to put someone off cycling for life!

And who the hell thought that sticking disc brakes on the front and less powerful v-brakes on the rear would be safe?

It is what it is BUT if you can push the cash to buy an Aluminium framed bike you will not regret it, I have 2 of Halfords Apollo girls bikes, the bikes are fine but the weight is a joke...if the kids go on a longish ride it soon becomes apparent that riding a steel girder will knacker them out really quickly. If one thing is going to put them off cycling the weight of the bike will be a major factor
IMHO steel bikes are to be avoided unless your child is riding it around the block

I can see this bobbing every time you push the pedal with that kak rear shock, may as well get a better hard tail and be done with.

Granted it's heavy and the bobbing bits (can't call them suspension!) are junk but I don't get the problem with front disc and rear v brakes?
(bearing in mind the rider and conditions this bike will be used in)

Oh dear, have you thought about second hand, £150 will get you a decent hardtail. I got a trek 4300 for £50 with a catseye bike computer, so you probably get something even better for £150. My sons friends Apollo snapped at the weld going off small jumps they had built.
