Apple AppleCare iPad Protection 2p @ Asda Instore

65
LocalFound 2nd Dec 2015
Found at the Asda Edinburgh Jewel store with three others on the shelf.

Probably a wild goose chase for anyone else but worth checking in your local store.

UPDATE: Phoned Apple to register the protection and apparently it's changed to AppleCare+ and the AppleCare Protection is no more in the UK. But the Apple rep changed it up and my iPad is now protected for two years! Best 2p I've ever spent!

Me too
Just bear in mind you only have about 2 weeks to register Applecare after buying an iPad.

I only know because I left it too long myself !
Anything that is 2p at asda regardless of department should always be taken off display. (for what ever reason it's deleted.) If you can get it for that price well done, bargain (_;) Have some heat
You seriously can't go wrong for two new pennies can you LOL
probably fake or something seriously wrong with asda??
is the Apple care for IPad 1st Gen?
Hilarious you used a card to pay 2p

This is the old school AppleCare. I think the two weeks you talk of is the newer AppleCare Plus. The newer one let's you pay an excess and have the device changed (included accidents). This original version just covered you against manufacturer issues (everything apart from accidents).

I bought an Air 2 second hand that was 4 months old. Bought the original AppleCare for £9.99 on eBay and it extended the cover the extra 12 months beyond the original 12. Brilliant to have that piece of mind for 2p in this case!!

Don't forget your covered under the sales of goods act and an EU one for 2 years anyway no matter what apple says. Had iPhone fixed for free 20 months old. When they said there would be a fee I just said i want to claim under consumer law, and it was sorted

Yeh 2 years is the EU law. When I asked for cover under consumer law, Apple sent UPS to pick my phone up. It was back within 2 days.

Had similar problem, I bought iPhone 3GS in Italy, 10 months later it developed fault, took it to Apple in London and they said yes it's a fault but would not exchange it or repair because it was not a uk model. I complained to manager , saying warranty should cover all of uk - no joy. Telephoned Apple care line in uk - no joy, called Apple in USA - still no joy, spoke to trading standards who were not helpful and referred me to the DTI, who referred me to EU minister for trade - who was also useless. I had to send the phone by courier to Italy with cash so they could send replacement back by courier. I wrote to Steve Jobs to complain and to Vivianne Reading (EU minister for telecoms), Jobs didn't reply but Reading said she would pass letter on to correct Dept in Brussels. I got replacement phone and never heard anything, then out of the blue 2 odd years later, I got a letter from Apple Italy, referring me to a court ruling where they had been taken to court by the Italian consumer body and been found guilty of breaching EU law on warranty, this stemmed from Belgium and Dutch citizens buying iPhones in Italy, taking them back to their country and finding they had no recourse to Apple in their home country for repairs. The Italian consumer body said they should honour 2 year warranty and contact anybody who were declined warranty help.
Up shot is, I got a £100 ITunes gift card to cover my courier cost and compensation and they had to put a prominent note on the first page of Apple.com/it advising of the court ruling, what the warranty period is and if anyone was declined warranty to get in touch...

No it's not, you don't know what you're talking about. As proof that you don't know what you're talking with the 'Sales of Goods Act' has been deprecated and replaced with the 'Consumer Rights Act 2015'. After six months the burden is on the consumer to prove the fault was present when sold. Read the legislation.

You can take your iPad to a store and they can test and check it. Then they can apply AppleCare. I have done this with a iPad I bought in Dubai no issues

Apple are generally good if purchased direct but the law states that the burden of proof is on you to prove the fault was present when you bought the phone.

This secret EU warranty is purely a myth and uk law covers you for 6 years (provided you prove the fault was there on delivery)

If you are buying an iPad get it direct from Apple and they generally honour repair of faults for 2 years.

Not true. Apple Care can be registered anytime during the warranty.
Question: When Apple Care expires, can you extend the insurance further???

That only applies to the original retailer, try to claim consumer law with carphone warehouse or EE. Second, Apple Care also includes free telephone support, it can be handy for some people.

The EU law is not a myth. However, the existing state of English law was such that most of it does not apply as it went above and beyond the Directive (though some provisions of the directive do apply). It is not 6 years under 'UK law' anyway - the limitation period for a simple contract is 6 years under the law of England and Wales (5 in Scotland) in any case - but you're right the two years is irrelevant. However, good luck trying to prove your case in court for your faulty £149 Beko washing machine after 5 years and 364 days!

apple.com/uk/…ty/

according to Apple, the claim would need to be with the reseller.
