I have 2 of these and no BBC radio integration, lack of Siri integration and features with IOT products drives me mad! I would honestly say avoid and go Alexa even if you have privacy concerns (Apple are proving to be just as bad TBO) as the cost to feature ratio is far superior (and now even the sound with the echo studio).

Seriously, these are being left behind!
I agree for a smart speaker they are rubbish, but in my opinion they are they best sounding wireless speaker (compared to Echo/Google Home and even the Sonos One).

These speakers were launched as speakers first smart system second, with the emphasis on the sound...and they are class!

Just would have thought 2 years after launch they would have upgraded software..

How does that factor into the UK though? And I'm not actually sure I'm that bothered about my doorbell footage either, for privacy concerns, it's not an internal camera.
A shame Siri is garbage
Must say I had a quick play with one in John Lewis Leeds on Friday. Fantastic sound and with the sub woofer facing down it gets great bass too!

What's wrong with this? Clearly says you're not obligated to provide footage in the first place. But sort of what these things are for arent they? Security.
Excellent deal, was waiting for this. Heat added!!!
Many thanks OP, have been on the fence for a while!
Argos has the same price now and they offer 12 months buy now pay later.

Usa only, they have very little privacy regulation, we are lucky we have regulation and EU privacy laws.
Cheers... looks to be a decent price

We're not that lucky. We have a Conservative government. They introduced the Snoopers' Charter, which became the Investigatory Powers Act 2016. A whole raft of government agencies have access to our online activities, mobile phone messages, etc, without the need for a court order. The High Court found the Act violates EU law. Yet another example of our government, despite having wall-to-wall lawyers, acting outside the law. Prorogation of parliament anyone?

Oh damn, totally forgot about that, also the terrorism act gives them power to invade anyone’s privacy, even if they are not a threat.
Best-sounding wireless speaker I've ever heard - and no issues playing BBC radio - just stream from your phone until full integration arrives next year.
I have 2 of these and would still like to add more. Fantastic sound.

I’m not sure I understand the criticisms of Siri/the smart features. It seems to do everything I ask of it without issue, but admittedly by use and expectations of a smart speaker is probably very basic, it’s not why I bought them.

You should try the play 5.

If you have only ever used siri you won't have very high expectations. So this will meet them.

Yea, pretty much the only things I ask it to do is play songs/playlists and set timers/alarms.

Some people expect more for a smart speaker.

If you only want an airplay speaker on the apple eco system this is probably the best option.

For everything else though there are better options.

Yes you would. The sound quality is fantastic and far better than the other smart speakers out there.

Hi CoeK, I have, and whilst the Play 5 is a great speaker, the sound quality of the HomePod still beats it in my opinion.

It is slightly better than a sonos 1, not even close to a sonos 5 and laughable against any proper speakers.

It is great for its size. But it only excels in a very specific area, that area is airplay compatible, moderately good sound in a small package.

Probably sounds great if it is your first real speaker but that's about it.

Then you need to trade in your hearing aid for a better model.

Perhaps, but as a studio engineer, I’ll have to wait for a break in work first ;-)

BTW, for ultimate sound detail, check out the world of studio near field monitors (if you haven’t already).

The Sonos 5 is more expensive and I actually preferred the sound of the HomePod when I compared them.

I think the HomePod is the best all rounder when you weigh up features, sound quality and price. Not everyone will come to the same conclusions but it’s not very accurate to say it’s only strength is that is has airplay.

Then you should know better, but if you are anything like the sound guys I know you are probably neck deep in the single ecosystem people love to be stuck in.

I didn't say that was its only strength.

The HomePod is close to the sonos 1, though better. But also more expensive.

As sound goes it is great for its size, if I had a homepod sized gap in my room and it wasn't stuck with apple music I would have one.

Nope; eco-systems make things easier but if you need accuracy when recording, mixing and mastering, accuracy comes way ahead of brand.

You don't use homepod in a studio. But you do at home. You use a mac at home. You probably use iPhone. And you probably think Airpods sound good.

Indeed (though I do test mixes on HomePods along with other AV equipment). But, yes I do use an iPhone - and I wouldn’t recommend a HomePod to someone without an iOS device (since I don’t think you could even set it up without one). AirPods are amazing for convenience - and I’ll leave it that ;-)
Thanks! Finally bitten and ordered one.
