APPLE iMac 5K 27" (2017) Its 2020 now

Wow, sorry I'll expire, I didn't realise
Note that this statement is within the original advert is not correct:
  • - Latest Intel processor delivers powerful performance
Great price, 5K displays alone are very expensive

Phenomenal price for a machine that will keep chugging for many years to come. How it performs so well without an SSD is beyond me!
Good price but not buying any pc w/o ssd
Is it easy to change this to an SSD...?

Not if you want an Internal SSD as the screen needs to come off but booting from an external SSD isn't difficult.

I've had the late 2013model
27 inch and still going strong!

It’s not hard but you need to research it thoroughly first (yt etc) - you need a mini pizza cutter tool to cut through the adhesive holding the screen in & a replacement adhesive kit
Buy from reputable source such as fixit as there are reports of cheaper adhesive letting the screen fallout after a few weeks

External caddy with SSD and you are good to go, I've been doing it for years
I want but my bank account says no.
Does anyone know how different to the 2019 model in spec and performance? Out at the moment, so can’t really check.

Processor on 2019 is faster 6 core (2017 is quad core)
Thankyou MrS , heat added, and ordered

No probs bud
Very tempted! This has upgradable ram as well. Pop in 32gb and then buy and 1tb external ssd. And for about 1400, this will be ace.

Me too
Is this touchscreen
This looks like it has a fusion drive, so in theory you will get the best of both worlds, ssd for fast booting etc.
Can this be price matched at John Lewis ?

If John Lewis sell this exact model, yes.

Who buys a sleek, expensive AIO machine with wireless peripherals then runs an external SSD off of it? I can’t think of a reason Apple didn’t do it as a 128GB SSD + 1TB at the time given the rest of the hardware is solid. I guess it was to milk people for the upgrade...

I know. I literally replied to your comment. And I am asking why because if I wanted to spend that kind of money on an iMac I’d get one with an SSD out of the box. It’s Apple’s fault is the point, it shouldn’t even be an option. It’d be like BMW releasing a 7-series with a 3-cylinder 1.0L engine as the baseline.

Because I got a great deal and because I can.

Why do people modify anything?

I'm happy you'd buy with the SSD, cool.

There is a flap on the back for ram upgrade. Very easy to add ram. I have same model with 40gb now.
I have this & im going to sell mine!
From 2017 all iMacs have USB3 / Thunderbolt 3 which are capable of speeds up to 40 GBPS... definitely fast enough to hook up a fast SSD for booting etc.

I’ve got 2x16gb Ram on the way. It’s good to leave the 2x4gb in there then?

Yes. There are 4 slots. I moved the 16gb to the main slots. Plus the 8 makes 40. Probably makes no difference which slots are used.
