not a bad deal if you like to support overpriced Apple. You can ge PC with better specs for under £600 though.

I wholeheartedly agree Steven and wish I could get my daughter to agree with me too. Unfortunately for us consumers the demand for Apple products allows them to charge a premium.

I've been looking for a while and went to purchase in Dixons tax free earlier this week but the price had shot up from £850 to £950. Turned out to be a blessing because I've saved a tenner for sure againt the original Dixons tax free price and hopefully another £30 if the cashback comes through.

Hopefully the deal will be well received by those looking to purchase an IMAC.

As usual, heavily opinionated comments when it comes to an Apple deal! Here we go again!

Anyway, good price, hot from me.

Good saving, if someone wants a Mac they'll buy one regardless of equivalent hardware comparisons.
I do like the resale argument, these things hold their value.

Excellent discount on this product, whether you think it's still overpriced or not - if you want an Apple, this is a fantastic deal.

Expected to see a Mac vs PC argument beginning in the comment section, wasn't let down.

Is this computer your talking about an all in one? With high quality screen + KB & mouse?

The PC would also come with an inbuilt ability to become slower and slower within 6 months of purchase, eventually rendering it useless in a couple of years.

mamboboy - if you price up a Dell Precision workstation (arguably a PC equivalent of the Mac Pro) you will find inflated prices just like the Mac Pro ones you've linked to. Xeon based machines from IBM and HP don't do any better. Nearly every major manufacturer who sells Xeon based machines assume they are going to be corporate buys - and they get heavily discounted when buying in bulk, so the part prices come down to more sensible levels.

It's at the low end where Apple are really shafting their customers - in that there is no reasonably priced low end!

OK, Apple is overpriced. But credit where it's due, it's a good price for the product.

I wouldn't buy one though.

I dunno where I would stand on that one. I love my iPad but hate, with every ounce of my being, the trauma that is iTunes. Oh for simple USB mass storage drag n drop!

Ridiculousl true. It boots up, shows windows but woe betide should I try to load even a browser before all 200 apple/flash/adobe/etc helper processes have finished taking a byte out of my mem.

Good deal, and a great product.

I believed all the negative twiffle (as above) until last year, when I found out you could have a MAC for 2 weeks - and if you dont like it sent it back, so figured I had nothing to lose.

Within 2 hours my old Windows machine was in the garage, and hasnt come out since.

This is from a die-hard windows fan since Windows 3.11.

Ignore the specs, stop looking at numbers - Apple software is written properly in the first place and will generally run faster than a higher spec Windows based machine anyway,

Runs as fast as the day it installed, and it's never had a virus problem. As long as you take care of it (like all computers) it will be fine. A weekly run of CCleaner and Spybot keeps it running perfectly...But I have one friend who spent his student loan on this mac. He consistently brags about how awesome it is and all it's 'cores' (whilst blatantly not having a clue what it is), yet I stood and watched it take 15-20 seconds for Firefox to open once he clicked it in the finder bar. My PC is slower than his iMac specs wise, yet Firefox opens in around 5 seconds. Chrome? Instantly.

Cool story, bro.

Quidco states currys cash back is 6% at the moment!!

Actually, the only important piece of application that most of us use is a browser. Chromium 9 + Windows 7 = Kaching!

Fantastic price for a great machine. Just bought a 27" one direct from Apple with student discount and 3 year warranty.

Haters gonna hate. Good price though.

+1, Mac's rule. End of argument.

I used to think Macs were crap.

Then I used one.

Then I bought one.

And I'll never go back.

Good deal if you want an iMac and not a student.

i like how all the mac fan-boys just put fingers in their ears (metaphorically) and just ignore what mamoboy has to say.

Another Mac convert here - had Windows since 3.11. After buying this model earlier in the year I would never go back.

Anyone trying to sound cool by saying how they now only use macs need to have sex.

preferably not with their mac.

Sorry this is quite literally Haddock.

Nothing about Mac software suggests it is written in a more efficient way.

I really don't get why we get these sad debates. If you NEED OSX for something and NEED to run it on a Mac then go ahead - good deal. Otherwise it doesn't really apply.

Yes, Apple hardware is hugely overpriced - but I simply vote with my feet.

(I'm an ACSP btw)

Does it have Blu-ray?

Nope cd/dvd

They are superbly designed and built with quality materials. Sony makes a similar looking machine using nice black plasic and a smaller, lower quality screen but charge more than the iMac, yet Apple continually get stick from the hating brigade for being too expensive.

I usually use a PC (and love it) but the iMac was purchased for Adobe media applications - the daughter is doing Media at college. If the Mac is as good as the stories I keep hearing, the PC's days may well be numbered!

Horses for courses.

Till death us do part! Are they so expensive because a priest has to be present when you make the purchase to hear you say your vows? ‘I swear my allegiance for all eternity to Sir Steve of backed up Jobbies-ville. I swear to put up with excessive polar neck wearing and particularly smarmy advertising campaigns.”

Apple have had good periods and bad periods and if they go through another bad one then why not just jump ship? It’s only a computer, you aren’t married to it, or are you!

Hats off to Apple for being one of the few PC manufacturers that regularly use high quality TFT panels.

haha - sounds like you're stalking dude!

If you use it for graphics/video work - it's a great machine

if you use it for sending emails and facebook - you are a posing idiot

Cheers for that, Agharta.

I liked Windows 7 but find OSX much better. I'm not a fanboy, I've just settled on a product that I find works for me.

As a performing arts technician I can honestly say there is no better tool for music/photography and video.

Apple computers are well worth their money in my opinion. They are an investment for your artform. 100% stable.

People always slate the price. But it comes with an excellent operating system and superb bundled software like GarageBand , iMovie etc.

I can't use a pc anymore they are utterly frustrating.

Since asking the question of Blu-ray earlier, I have realised that Apple have not put a Blu-ray drive in a Mac yet. Surely for a system said to be better for video editing etc there should be a built-in Blu-ray burner. Without getting into a PC vs MAC debate, I would only edit HD video onto Blu-ray now, so a PC is essential.

Plus do you still get quidco for collect in store sales?!

Anyone with experience on that?
