I've just been to my local Tesco (Brockworth, Gloucester) and was told that they've just introduced an interest free plan for all iPad 2s. With a £65 deposit, the remaining balance was split equally for around £60 a month on the base model.

He told me that this was a limited-time offer and that they were losing money on it - so get on it quickly!

Sounds like a great opportunity to own an iPad without the extra expense of APR from credit cards.

Offer spotted by someone on Twitter: yfrog.com/ke1…hgj (thanks @charobin123)

10/11/11 - I've just been back to the same Tesco, and the offer is still on. (Photo evidence attached).

This seems like a good offer to me if you cant afford one quite now, dont know why cold it saves on credit card interest.

Because a lot of people are of the opinion that if you can't afford to buy these 'luxuries' outright then you should save rather than borrow.

But it is a good offer (but not a 'deal')

Good point - not technically a deal, so apologies for this.
"He told me ... that they were losing money on it" Yeah, right! The Tesco charity!

Ha! Yeah - they'll be closing down because of it!
Good offer as bazzaric points out... sure beats having it on 24 months on some god awful contract. By the way, was this the wifi or 3G model?

It was on any model - you just take out the instalment plan and the payments are adjusted to match.
Money is better staying in your account over the term rather than paying outright. I always use interest free options, even when I have the cash to buy.
DAMN THIS WEBSITE SOMETIMES!!!!!!!!

I get the feeling if i go near a Tesco this evening, my wife may end my life!!!!

to be fair if you can't afford things then you should do without or save until you can especially with unessential products like the ipad 2 for instance. I speak as someone who kindly yet stupidly has lent almost £6000 to family members who are yet to pay me back so obviously I will have this certain viewpoint on the matter. regarding the offer it is a good way to afford the ipad 2 as it allows you to pay interest free payments.

I was agreeing with you
I dont understand how it can be £60 per month with a £69 deposit.. you end up paying over 700??

It's a 6 month payment scheme (I should have made that clear).... £55 a month I think.

Lmao, surprised you didnt say it will make your life more magical too.
It offer sounds good, but would want to get the facts first.

However If I understand the OP correctly and assume the payment term is six months, then for a IPAD2 (16GB Wifi Only) - the break-down would be;

Total price - £399.00 (price as currently specified on the Tesco website)
Initial Payment - £65,
Remaining Balance - £334 (Six Monthly payments of £55.67)

Is that correct?

You will do whatever it commands you to, and pay for whatever it wants, however it wants. You can never use me out of the box.. oh no! You need to sign the EULA then quote the bind phrase "there's an app for that!", and grab updates through the hell that is iTunes. You will also take on the new moniker iSlave and be bound to it for an eternity...

Or...

So quoted in the EULA... anyone bother to read it?
Doesnt seem bad. Do they do credit checks then? Cos this can be abused easily
Trouble is after the novelty has worn off your down £60 a month for six months......... I would rather save up the dollar & if can afford it in 6 months then i will have one, rather than have it on the tick You know it makes sense

Nothing wrong with interest free as long as the product is correctly priced
When i first had my own home i did a bit of interest free and buy now pay it later mainly on white goods still better than putting it on the credit card unless thats interest free.

I guess you bought your house outright
Does anyone know if this payment plan is subject to a credit rating? Cheers
I'd imagine they would be signing you up for a Tesco store card or the likes with an offer like this or would only be valid to Tesco store card owners ! I might be wrong though.

Ask someone who already has an iPad, no doubt theres an app for that lol
I suppose it might be a good deal for someone who can't afford a Vega or a Hannspad.

A house is a necessity and an investment, and a stupid iPad is not.
Once iPad 3, 4 ... comes out, you'll go after that. This is money going down the drain.

A house is owned by the bank. You could also go with buying a car outright???

Some people can purchase these if there is more coming in then going out.

I'd hate to live at your house, ever heard of buying something for enjoyment? Having said that, I'd still wait for the refresh before buying one of these.

Completely agree. Even if you can afford to buy it outright, you are better off keeping the money in your account and taking advantage of the offer.
