I completely understand where you are coming from. But this is mainly designed for students. And I’m pretty sure most of them would rather saved a ton of money and would take a faster processor than the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro 9.7
David238 m ago

Hilarious that it's £211 in the US.

No its not, remember our prices includes VAT, the US price doesn't include state sales tax. So for example if you bought it in California where sales tax is 7.25% the total would be $353 which is £250. Still cheaper then here but thats more of a reflection on our 20% VAT as apposed to a much lower sales tax.
Shame there's no new iPad mini released

There are states that have no sales tax in the US and many have a rate below 5%. A lot of people travel in from neighbouring states just to buy things.

I would say anything higher than paying £40 more for this is kind of a kick in the teeth.

I added the information to note that it is a good thing! £20 less for better chip (A10 v/s A9) + Apple Pencil support is a good thing.
What do you guys think of this new model over the iPad mini 4? This techno language is far too complicated to keep up

No brainer to get this iPad v/s iPad mini 4 unless portability is all that you are looking for. This iPad is 2 generations ahead in terms of CPU + GPU.

I expect in the next few months they will also refresh the Mini to make it make more sense. They will probably also give it a price drop.
This now has a faster processor than my iPad Pro 9.7” which i only bought a few months ago.
This vs iPad Pro 9.7? Same screen size, better processor... what about ram?
Will wait to see how much EglobalCentral stock these for, given its WW Warranty on iPads i don’t mind importing. Nice bump in CPU though, will be interesting to see real battery life tests when reviews hit

Also, why are people voting cold on the product? The whole point of this site is finding the best price for a product, not the quality/features or your personal opinions of said product.

Because of that, you get a hot from me.

That's more of a complaint on our high rate of sales tax in this country.

Excluding VAT we pay £266.66 while the US pay £232.40. So we pay about £34 more which although isn't great it's not as much as it initially looks. There are also other costs such as import duty that Apple have to pay.

Agreed, hope they don’t kill it as per the rumours. Perfect size for me, still holding on to my mini 4. A full screen like the iPhone X in the same form factor would be awesome

The iPad Pro 9.7" has all these things that this 6th generation iPad does not:

  • A wide color display (P3)
  • True Tone
  • Smart Connector (only Bluetooth keyboards are supported)
  • A fully laminated display
  • A four-speaker audio system
  • 5 MP front FaceTime Camera
  • 12 MP iSight Camera

Battery life is what I'm also especially looking forward to since A10 Fusion was the first Apple chip to include two high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores. This, on an iPad which has similar tech v/s 5th generation (other than subtouch pixel matrix to support Apple Pencil) should mean at least an added hour of real world scenario battery life.

Hot, because I genuinely know of no better tablet at this price. This is a pixel house, and the iPad spanks the Pixel C.

They have to also pay import duty in the US, all this is made in China. The transportation costs there are also much higher because of the distances.

I personally always work off the tax free price because plenty of people in the US have access to that price living in or near tax free states.

£232 + 20% = £278.40 = 40.60 markup I think. It's excessive but it's only just into kick in a teeth price. It's not the £100 claimed and more than enough as I think they off shore it in the channel islands.

Just those numbers aren't as bad as people say.... As I see it atleast

Remember that the calculation about U.S. (£232) is pre-tax. People in most countries is paying just about the same before import duties/taxes etc.

I agree but that's not really Apple fault.

Also are there any other 10 inch tablets with similar spec to this and cheaper? The A10 is very fast, infact probably on par with my Samsung S9 and the screen has a good DPI.

This is really just a new Apple easter launch/sale - expect it yearly now after it took its eye off the ball by making Apple ‘computing’ inaccessible for most schools in a decade during a financial crisis by its purchase cost - whilst iMac/iPad costs were rising Google and Microsoft were ploughing out free licences on cheap capable hardware so it’s now gone nearer to its educational roots than it has been in a decade - Apple USA used to give free stuff to schools and bought that generations loyalty (now falling as older and wiser) it’s not near enough to its roots at that price still.

Most iphone users have a Windows PC/Tablet or Android Tablet, this won’t change that big time on 1) cost against Google/Micro 2) They should have made it a “keyboard included” 2 in 1 device with 2/3G standard - not a optional expensive extra.

£250 with a keyboard in California and elsewhere. A £250 iphone sidekick 2in1 notebook/tablet device that can be standalone with its own Product name would have boosted sales in both lines worldwide. Then you have the iPad and Mac/MacBook as premium devices. Ie... A cheap 2in1 “MiBook” that could run the mobile iOS or full iOS as tablet or desktop/keyboard mode would buy people into the platform OS mobile and home.

Still lacking, the marketing dept in recent years got lazy as did the top table.

Welcome improvement in cost reduction but a missed opportunity in my opinion with a new entry product line, education focus and next generation operating systems loyalty/buy in - most iPhone/iPad users can’t use full desktop Apple OS as decades of Windows are engrained and people are lazy to learn (I’m one of them and I wouldn’t pay the premium price to slow me down and learn a new OS either lol!)
Assuming this comes with 2gb of ram but it would be nice if it had 3.
