Not anymore it's not, or the 6.

My iPhone SE says it’s supported but the keyboard lagging says otherwise.

It’s not getting the latest update. I thinkthis was the last iPad before the iPad Air.

Even the faster Air model runs like an absolute dog these days. I wouldn’t think this was a great investment.

I wouldn’t call a £64 iPad an investment anyway... good deal if you have kids at a young age that can use these
Good as a tablet for kids, was tempted to get it for my 6 years old son but converting all his cartoons in ipad format puts me off, in fact this is one of the reasons I'm looking to replace my Ipad with an android. Voted hot!
This will not support any new apps in the app-store and things like facebook and youtube will most likely no longer work on the last versions available for these devices. Also the security of them is obviously hideous... although its not like your banking apps would work anyway.

Could be useful as a high res digital photo frame

I couldn’t disagree more
I'm still using my mrs old 3rd gen to watch Netflix on. I had to dig up the old app and download it from a different source as the Netflix app on the app store doesn't support it but it just about runs on old one!
Got an original iPad mini, that is painful to use.. I imagine this will be worse.

Just get VLC player and use the remote upload feature. It’s pretty simple but not as easy as drag and drop on an Android device (eg Tab S2).

iPad 4 is A6X vs A5 in the mini 1 and has twice the RAM - it’s surprisingly usable given the price.

How do you get Netflix to work on these not sure how to download from a different source
Any free delivery code
i have the ipad air first generation, which was released november 2013. this was released february 2013 according to google. ipad air still works fine with very new apps, youtube, netflix, sky q, prime video. battery still going great. still getting software updates and regular app updates.

it is slower than my S9 and windows 10 laptop for browsing but not to a degree that you would lose patience. it was never very fast even when new. i wouldnt buy second hand, but i would think this tablet would be fine if you are looking for cheap refurbish.
Had a few of these recently surprisingly I found it faster to browse with than my mini 2,most likely because the 32 bit os is that much lighter. However so few of the apps work on this that it becomes very limited use. However for prime video watching it is still very useable

Install it on a newer iPhone / iPad first under your Apple account. Then go back to the old iPad and click purchases, not on this iPad. Click the app again and this time it should ask you if you want to install the old version.
We've got this and the screen is so slow now. I'd avoid

Very general comment with no evidence, mines as fast as ever
Well we have had the original air since launch and it now used by the kids. Every time I use it I get frustrated by how slow it is. And that’s a mode that is significantly faster than the mode offered here.

My parents has this model but replaced it two years ago as it was too slow.

So plenty of evidence.

Try a factory reset and reinstall - my old air 1 runs like silk now!
I've everyone has a different definition of what's acceptable speed wise
But I will say that it is a dream compared to trying to browse the web on a less than two year old Amazon Fire 8.

I was doing that this morning and wanted to throw it out of the window.

I use my mini 2 for commuting; Plex and all other video apps. Works great apart from plex occasionally crashing.
For certain value is subjective but choosing a tablet that old and has a rapidly shrinking selection of apps when there are plenty of similarly priced options it is getting close to being objective a bad investment.

And it will only get worse over the time you own it.

I would suggest spending a little more and get a newer iPad if it must be IOS or looking at the hundreds of android options.

I have to agree with this. I bought a "bargain" android smartphone on ebay only to realise Google Play Services no longer support the Gingerbread operating system. I will now have to spend time updating it by modding the operating system. I guess I am lucky I can do that. I don't know what happens if Apple stop supporting a device.
