    USB C, and it needs the gen 2 pencil.

    You are probably taking about the basic iPad, which whilst USB C, it uses a gen 1 lightning based pencil, therefore needs a dongle to charge it. The reason behind this is it has a landscape camera, so there is no room for the wireless charging gear on the side. (edited)

    Maybe it's a bargain compared to RRP, but damn iPads have gotten bloody expensive.

    I miss the days of the best iPad starting at £499.

    I don't know what you're expecting. The 9th and 10th gen are from £369 and £499. This is an Air with an M1 chip. The M1 is totally wasted in it, no one is getting anywhere near utilising that power on iPadOS. Then you have inflation of 10% plus extra costs due to logistical challenges since 2020.

    I'm left wondering why bother with this iPad Air instead of getting a lightly used iPad Pro 11" 3rd gen 2021 model (M1): you get a slightly bigger, 120Hz display with Face ID and the same processor - and you can find those as low as £400 now. Very good iPads but the Air doesn't really need to exist when its sandwiched between the iPad 10th gen and iPad Pro lineup.
