How are you comparing the XR to the pro? XR to the 11 maybe, but XR is 1 year older and isn’t a comparison. They don’t even have the same screen!
£1,000 for a phone, mental

He isn't exactly comparing a house to a watch.

They are comparable as they are both phones.

It is but you could also argue you’re getting a £4-£500 camera as well
It’s still way cheaper to get the Vodafone deal

Not when they’re of a different year and different standard.

Yeah. That device you use for multiple hours each day. Probably the most used thing that people ever buy other than a house.

How dare people spend less than a months minimum wage on it.

It’s more then just a phone now though. It’s a miniature laptop with a very good camera. Still crazy prices but considering it’s probably the thing that people use more then anything else then it’s probably justified.

In Samsung terms in like comparing a S10 to A9
is that a deal £999
that's normal price

Are you joking?
Xr is last year’s iPhones budget version with cheap lcd screen and weaker performance etc.
Xs and 11 pro comes with oled screens and top of the range processors etc.
Just google and you’ll see.
They look similar but that’s nearly the same as comparing iPhone 6 and 8 saying it looks the same so why the price difference...

Yes they are still comparable. Whether you like it or not.

I’m not arguing that it isn’t one of the best phones out I was just wondering if it’s worth double the price of an XR ?

I would say it was. Even if just not to look poor.

Stood on a train right now and literally EVERYBODY is using their phone - so you are right on the usage front - but I bet they are all doing the same stuff - checking Facebook, looking for back Friday deals etc - irrespective of whether the phone costs a grand or a fraction of that.

My son is after one of these (he has a 6s) and I have asked him what it would do that his current one cannot - no meaningful answers received - suffice to say he won't be getting one

I always hated when my parents asked that.
nokiafusion29/11/2019 08:13

Lol

That's essentially what flag ships are all about these days.

As someone above said it is like comparing a S series to and an A series.

Nobody wants an A series, it is purely functional. I'd rather have a flagship from someone cheaper than a lower version of a Samsung or apple phone.
CoeK29/11/2019 08:15

Me too - it's much better when the tables are turned and you can put your kids on the spot

House to a watch? Using your analogy it would be like comparing a terraced house to a fully detached house with a double garage on a couple acres of land

No need to look poor now.. who would know the difference. All for £2.69..

Maybe I could answer for him? Triple camera setup with a telephoto and wide angle lens plus an excellent night mode for extreme low light photos. Ip68 to 4m depth. Oled screen for hdr and much better contrast. Pure oled blacks. Face ID. Fast charge. Wireless charging. Finally a much more premium and nicer look overall. Now can you upgrade his phone please?
rhysccfc3129/11/2019 08:01

It's a portable computer and for many people their only computer. Whether any smartphone is worth £1k+ is down to the buyer. Some people make do with £200 netbooks and are happy enough with similar budget phones.

Speeeed 🚀 and power
Haha too much of the old top gear for me lately.
Xr and Xs will share the same chip but that wasn’t really the question was it?
It was about xr compared to 11 pro.
That’s like comparing Vauxhall and Mec saying they both got 4 wheels, windows and things like that so why do people pay double for the Mec?!? It’s all a big mystery...
End of the day you buy what you like and can afford is my suggestion.

It’s better. And people tend to like and get better things in their life.
Yes it does the basic things as 6s, but the world moves on and it can do many things that 6s can’t.
Get that kid iPhone 11 mate. You’ll make him smile and be happy about what he wants. That kind of things should matter in life.
My dad was like that and I can’t say thanks to him for that (to be polite here). Do you really want your son to think that about you? Kids are kids.

Genuinely useful info - thanks.

The way my mind reads that is that I don't expect him to be taking many glorious piccies underwater or in the dark - so it comes down to its a bit faster and nicer to look at.

This is why I struggle with flagship phones - the cost vs benefit doesn't seem to stack up, with most of the features being completely wasted on the average user.

As for my son - I am more convinced than ever that he just wants the latest gadget for the sake of it - especially if I am foolish enough to pay for it - which I am not
