Not everyone's cup of tea I know but for a brand new SIM free iPhone 5S it's pretty decent and hopefully of help to someone. £269.99 without the upgrade.

Worth mentioning the upgrade is only available to Vodafone customers
Locks to first sim, so put a sim in that is cheap and easy to unlock than one thats almost impossible!!

I believe 3 and O2 are easiest to unlock in my experience.
Fair price IMO
Always hateful seeing prices slide the other side of Christmas but the OH wanted it so not much can be done good price cheapest I could get the phone for was £300 from cex grade a heat added !!
Good price and I'm looking for one, but quite like the giffgaff tariff, so sadly not for me.
Most will find 16th too little after a while.
Just had to upgrade my iphone 5 S which was working perfectly on ios 8.1.2 because there wasno way to activate my apple watch without updating (and the jailbreak community being absolute filth of the earth) and I havce to say, this phone is crippled and unusable under ios 9.2. Shocking. I always stray away form updating apple devices from their stock ios but this one has shocked even me.

I'm using a 16gb 5s now on 9.2 also with my watch. No problem at all.
So if I bought pay as you go, I can throw away £259.99 and put in my own contract SIM card?

All I can say is mine is a 64GB model with music, thousands of pictures, thousandsand thousands of textx and emails. Now I know people will say well purge some emails, however that is a stupid suggestion as if I need my content on there I need it on there. Also it was working 90% better under ios 8.1.2. Now? it has not only slowed down to a scratch, I need to tap things twice to get them to launch, I have to type slower than before as the screen just doesn't recognise whatever I type, and whatsapp, outlook, the browser and texts are a pain to use. The camera is crippled also. Sorry but I think you're very lucky but mine is a snail now.

Exactly
I am on a sim only 30 day contract with Talkmobile who use the Vodafone network. Am I correct in assuming....if I buy the handset at the Vodafone upgrade price of £239 my sim should work? Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Really can't call any iPhone from companies on eBay refurbished not in the sense of what people consider refurbished bought one the other week, good seller or so it seemed turned out it was made out of parts bin pieces and had a iPad mini serial number! If you want refurbished best to go with something like o2 refresh or giffgaff in most cases you end up wth a near brand new phone.

You'll be fine, all cpw phones are unlocked. It will lock to the first network though when you insert the SIM.

Just a heads up by the way. When buying phones at CeX, always haggle. They'll more than likely discount a decent bit off to not loose the sale.
H3@t for an iPhone deal. I'm awesome.
Be careful with Carphone Warehouse 'unlocked' iPhones - they always used to lock to the first SIM put in them.

Yeah, the average stoner will get through that in a day.
I am a great Apple fan and still think it worthwhile paying for Macs. However, their phone prices are crazy and they lost me now. I have an LG G4 and it's great. My daughter insists on having an iPhone simply because of Face time. Wife is going to give her my wife's old 5s-amazed at how much is still being charged for these. Wife has just upgraded to an Honor 7 at £175 on that deal yeterday and it blows the 5s out of the water, it is substantially better.

Don't suppose your daughter could test Facetime against Oovoo and Skype please and report back? I don't have an iPhone to play with.

Much truth. The new iOS has crippled the older handsets and no amount of factory reset is going to fix it. I've lost my ipad 2 and iphone 5s 64gb this way. The way I see it, theres no point spending any money on this as the apps will eventually want you to be using a newer version of iOS and you cant get out of upgrading the software. Apple = thieves in this respect.

how very strange. it seems as tho unsubstantiated stories abound.
Has anyone recently brought an iphone from New York , I would be interested in what was paid.

Thanks
16GB is pretty low

Apple and Samsung devices are both trash. Apple products are overpriced adult versions of fisher price toys. Samsungs are cheap and tacky with horrible software.

I know it's really disconcerting as certainly the iPhone 5s has enough power to be a perfectly usable phone. The worst thing about Apple is not their practices to force updates on you, it's their fan base. I truly believe Apple apologists are the lowest form of life on Earth utterly devoid of sympathy and camaraderie for their fellow users. Look at the guy below your comment. Utterly blind to the fact our claims could not be unsubstantiated as we own these devices and speak from experience. So eager yet to call us liars. It's fascinating and sad but I truly think Apple fans at no better than nazis and terrorists. Just look upappleforums where anyone who dares to post an issue with the hardware or software and legions upon legions of people literally run the person out telling them they're using the product wro or simply lying. Worse so they get personal about it. Anyhow just having my penny's worth sitting on the loo at 4am but I empathise with you. There's forums of people saying the same thing as Us.

Not quite. Most of CPW's stock will be unlocked but the nature of how they buy is if they can source stock cheaper from the network locked they may do that. Remember anything that's network exclusive eg a particular colour or finish will almost always be sourced from a network and locked. There is no way to tell if a phone from CPW is locked or unlocked before you get to see the box.

Chances are it will be unlocked but it's not a guarantee. I've had locked and unlocked phones from CPW in the past.

You need to do as others have advised. Back them up reset and factory resort them. My iPad 2 16gb and iPhone 5 16gb both are fine no noticeable slow down on either due to the OS. Sure they are not the fastest thing ever and yes some apps are slow to open but I can't say that the OS upgrade alone made any noticeable difference the apps were slow before and after the upgrade.

And yes some apps need the latest software. What new in that. No different to a PC where a game requires say win 10 and won't run in win 7. At least Apple give you the option to upgrade like many Android makers who seem to practically stop OS upgrades the moment the phone stops being made (Sony certainly seem to in my experience)

My iPhone is a 5S running 9.2 and there is no noticeable slow down at all, absolutely none and all I've done is upgrade, no factory resets required.
And my iPad2 is very old, it has slowed down a bit, but I am using it with 9.2 to make this comment with no problem at all.
I'd suggest that you have some other problem other than just the iOS version.
