This is for PAYG but cheaper if you go for a monthly contract and cancel:

just buy a 24 months contract. you can see a option to pay device in full upfront. onc eyou get the device call them to unlock it. then cancel the contract. keep the device. hope it helps.

Duplicate post then and more expensive than other thread.
i see alot of people are doing this but 02 have you by the horns if you catch my meaning example (get phone on contract and then ring up and cancel, but if you want it unlocked then you have to put in the sim and activate sim in order to get o2 to unlock. once you do you are liable for 1st months charges. if you do not activate sim then you can cancel under the 14 day cooling off period and 02 can not charge you for the sim part under distance selling regs, but you can be sure they will try.) is this how it sort of works?

This is from an online chat yesterday:

LILY: Once you get new phone and SIm from O2.

Just use the SIM with new phone for few hours and then request for unlocking and then pay off device plan and cancel contract.
LILY: You can do that on same day but make sure you use O2 SIM with new phone to get the phone register to O2 network before cancelling contract.
CUSTOMER: ok, so maybe make a couple of calls?
LILY: Yes, you can make the calls and you'll only get charge the number of days your contract is active and not for entire month airtime plan.
CUSTOMER: ok thank you
Yea done this and it works, just call O2 as it's free !
I've done Refresh a few times and I've NEVER put the SIM in to activate the phone, my unlock has always come through. Am I just lucky or have they recently changed things? In all likelihood the phone will have already been registered on the O2 network by the person who sent it back, so even if you did have to get O2's supermachines to 'see' the phone this will already have been done.
Out of stock, or me being an idiot?

I know this is an old post but if someone could help that would be much appreciated!

With regards to the 02 Refresh pay monthly contracts. After you had payed off your device (iPhone 5S) in full AND cancelled your airtime. Were you liable to pay for the 1st full month's airtime or were you charged pro-rata based on the number of days that the airtime was actually active.

I have payed off my device in full and cancelled the airtime and 02 want to charge me for the full month of airtime when the airtime was only active for 5 days. I have spoken to 02 chat a few times and they are giving conflicting information.

Anyone??

Thanks in advance
