Didn't want to hijack MrSwitch's thread but some good examples:
  • 32GB unlocked good condition in any colour but Space Grey (so Silver, Gold or Rose Gold) is £79.99 - so £4 less than the Space Grey
  • 64GB unlocked good condition in Gold is £83.99 <- which I think is the real star of the show here

Personally I would definitely pay the extra £4 for the 32GB over the 16GB - 16GB is really tight and 32GB is a newer SKU so it could be better graded than the others.

6S was a decent phone, worth it at this price for second phone/teenagers etc. Tempted to swap out my sim from crap work phone and pop it into one of these

Just a word of warning I’m currently using a 6S and the battery life is pretty poor! ( though this is a well documented issue with this model of iPhone

Yes battery not fantastic. Work phone is only for emergency use, so it’s always switched off until I need it.

This is how much they would give me for my old 5s 64GB

It's £10-15, battery and tools off eBay.
Yeah it's off eBay, but most of the top results are from reputable sellers.

Apple offers a replacement for £49 (including labour and tax)

A genuine battery would cost around £15-£20, and you’d need the tools, patience, and skills to replace it if you want to do it by yourself

This is the battery I bought a few months ago, although unfortunately unavailable at the mo. But you get all the tools with it. It was £14.90 at the time. Slightly bigger capacity than the official battery, so I've found the battery life pretty good.

Cheap Chinese brand battery though
The other colours have better pricing - 32GB silver, gold or rose gold unlocked is £79.99 and 64GB gold unlocked for £83.99.

Still a capable phone - will be fine for people who want an iPhone but don't want to pay the costs associated with it.

You can get them for around £5 on eBay. At the end of the day they're all from similar factories, no point in paying more. The only way to get an OEM one is to find a scavenged one.

Yes, I opened an iPhone from them as I wanted to see what was inside as I couldn't believe it was at 100% health (especially as the condition was average) - and inside I found a non-OEM battery with a Music Magpie warranty seal over it. Good that they're replacing them but I doubt their workmanship is up to much... high volume, low margin sales.

I have had the 6s since launch. About 5 months ago I bought a new and bigger battery from amazon for £15. it only took 20 mins to fit and it’s like a new phone now.
Bought a 6S 128gb from MM about a year ago and the battery is still at 83% capacity so no complaints here.
Just about to sell it back to them as have ordered an 8 plus off them from the recent ebay deals.

It's not an expert job to replace the battery, very easy to do.

I know. I’d trust you or myself to do it to my own phone. I wouldn’t trust someone who’s on tight time constraints at Music Magpie to do it to a good standard - eg glue it in, remove the old one safely, not drop random screws.

We do the usual Tristar (U2IC) , iPad 2 touchscreen IC swap, baseband, wifi ic swaps, and of course iPhone 7 audio IC repair, because the iPhone 7 is an absolute dog of a phone, common fault of course. Still got to learn about CPU repair on iPhone X and later because of the sandwiched boards.

Yes, I guess all common faults as such but still less so than many other phones I've seen. I feel the newer iPhones are much less stringent on quality, though the 6s genuinely seems to be one of their more robust handsets. Is it worth fixing an iPhone X? Seriously, as the used market is dropping so fast I am wondering whether transplanting boards is cheaper than low-level fixes? Like I said, we used to do repairs in-house for customers but the margins were so low that we stopped and now we suggest part-exchanging their device for scrap (if anything more than a battery replacement) and sourcing a replacement unit instead.

We deal with higher volume I would guess from what you're saying. The iPhone 8 is the best iPhone with current iOS and future iOS support, very few problems with that phone. The 7 though worst phone Apple ever released.

Yes, obviously higher volume - it was never the primary goal of my business to fix older devices really, it was just an avenue we explored but it was getting me bogged down with time-consuming repairs and shoddy third-party components - then the odd issue where a device someone bought you had additional faults they didn't mention but tried to claim you did it. Honestly a minefield and I gave up in the end, some years back. I'll still do batteries for existing customers but usually only on non-IP phones.

I haven't made much attempt to stock phones these days due to astronomical depreciation and the major recyclers pushing direct channels.

I got a couple of 64GB Gold ones for £83.99. Both scratched up and pretty well-used but can live with it for the price. One has the screen slightly raised but looks like an original display, though battery is 100% so I'm pretty sure they have replaced it like they do. The other was on iOS 11.0.1 so can't check the performance. Last time round, the 6s was 84%.

Fishmaster - does the Audio IC disease fault affect the 7 Plus as well? Not that it matters now but I had a chance to get a few 7 Plus handsets and I am quite fond of them for the great battery life and still being a solid phone. I read somewhere that it is affected and others say it's only the smaller 7.

Yes it happens on all iPhone 7 models.

The A1660 is a USA model, avoid that one as it has baseband issues as well as Audio IC. The A1660 sometimes find their way to the UK, so be careful you don't get that model.

Pretty sure it was an A1784 variant - iPhone 7 Plus (GSM). The seller had them all original components, 128GB storage with 12 month warranty for £150 - I missed out anyway as I didn't submit an order in time... I always reject clearly modified handsets or incorrect region devices.
