But then again, the price of the iPhone 7/7+ should fall in the next few days once the new phone is announced

I believe so, think the only handsets that remain unlocked after the first sim has been inserted are ones supplied direct from Apple.

Giff gaff sell unlocked handsets and they don't lock to the network

Too expensive new iPhone is coming out wait two weeks more you won't die -_-

Won’t be this cheap though, and the idea that prices will plummet upon announcement is flawed. Sometimes Apple drop the price but they won’t drop it to this sort of price.

Most retailer units now remain unlocked to my knowledge. As the articles states, Argos and John Lewis remain unlocked. I think this article is outdated too, as I’m led to believe that CarphoneWarehouse and Mobiles.co.uk handset now also come completely unlocked, which we never the case before.

Perhaps things have now changed then but in the past I've read a number of times that unlocked handsets supplied by mobile networks or phone shops, lock to the network of the first sim inserted. Apple stores and John Lewis were amongst the only exceptions to this.

Good news if indeed most/all handsets supplied from elsewhere remain unlocked as iPhones are not the easiest or cheapest to unlock.

I know it won't be cheap but best to wait at least iPhone 7 / Plus will be cheaper

OP you need to amend the discounted price of the 128Gb to £589.99 (currently reading £598.99 - a whopping £1 off!):/

Not generally any more than it does before a new one is launched in my experience.

How long ago was that? More detail needed. Argos used to lock to first SIM for example but this is no longer the case.

I bought it a year ago at launch. This detail was in the notes I believe from very. However a quick check of menu options suggests it may be unlocked. I'm going to try Vodafone so I'll soon know.

It should be unlocked. Certainly newer devices seem to be shipping from Very with the same permanent unlock as Argos etc.

A little known bit of information here is that since August EE iPhones that have been activated for over 24 months should now automatically unlock, so anyone with an old EE phone in a drawer should find that it works on other networks now.
