£699 for a phone with a 3 year old design...
Is that an iPhone 6? Or a 6s? Or is it a 7? Or is it a 7s? Or is it an 8?

Another apple deal that's gonna fall.

I voted hot, because I'm nice. ;-)
OP are you on drugs?
Should this be in 'computers'? shouldn't it be in kids toys or kitchen utensils or something?

I wonder if it will clear absolute zero?
As a massive apple fan this is now taking the piss. Seriously. It's the same looking phone for 3 years.... The 7 looked the same as my 6s which is why I didn't bother to upgrade. Nothing new here either
Seriously, are people really going to spend that kind of money on this phone? Even Apple basically acknowledged it was an outdated design by showing 'the future' immediately after with the X (which is basically them now playing catch up design wise with everyone else). It really was the most bizarre product launch. Total contempt.
I must admit I as an Android fan the iPhone X is the first iPhone I have really liked the look of, but that should be the same price as this.

No doubt the iPhone X will outsell the iPhone 8 though.

Completely agree, why would you release this and then say but this is what you could have if you pony up... of course everyone is going to go for the X and those who don’t will always wish they had. In reality I think most (who can’t afford the X) will wait to upgrade until this design filters down the range.

Well, at least now they have had time to remove most of the kinks.

You're clueless! I'm 100% in to Android, but the iPhone 8 has the processing power of a 7th gen i5, not sustained but that's still amazing, the camera is better than every Android phone on the planet. It uses 3D NAND NVMe storage, it makes Android look like a potato. I'm literally amazed how powerful these Apple phones are, plus IOS11 has a fully fleged file manager now. iPads could well take over from laptops.

This is pretty amazing stuff, you essentially have the power of a Macbook Pro in your pocket. I'm almost tempted to convert from Android which is laggy and potato slow on even the best Android hardware, which gets annihilated by the iPhone 8.

Who cares the power of this phone is incredible. See my post above.
Thanks bargain, ordered

That's what everybody should do, including those who can afford the X !

All that power makes very little difference in real world use though, so maybe "Mr Clueless" was thinking about that rather than benchmarks, which is actually quite sensible !!

The absolute irony of that statement.
I’ve just purchase a new iPhone 7 for £400 of fleabay after seeing the speed comparisons on YouTube between the 7 & 8 there really is nothing in it don’t bother with the 8 go for the X if you really need it.

I raise you facts …I raise you facts >https://9to5mac.com/2017/09/22/iphone-8-geekbench-test-scores/

The SoC (system on chip) on an iPhone uses less than 2watts of power, compared to most desktop PC's which are easily over 60watts - the SoC is not that much bigger than one of your fingernails and produces little heat so the phone can use passive cooling.

The SoC's are made with mobile in mind, they are designed to help the speed it takes for web browsing ect... this is also coupled with a purposely designed OS and applications to take advantage of the custom RISC instruction set to give you the best experience they can. I cannot stress enough how different these chips are compared to ones you get on desktop and laptops. It did great in that synthetic benchmark you posted, but it's clear that it is benching what these processors are good at, which would explain why nobody outside of the mobile world uses it (you will be hard pushed to find people online bragging about their I7 geekbench score).

To say there has been some incredible breakthrough, you now have to see is a ridiculously stupid assessment to make, ARM processors are not even close to x86.

It’s not just that is flicking between apps and camera coming on etc. Editing video etc. Why pay £600-800 for a Samsung that’s half the speed of apple.
Which will also crash in price far quicker than an iPhone
Voted deal as you can use the argos card and pay 0% over 12 months.

The DXO mark score counts for jack all. Plus, I’m sure the CPU was actually based off Intel, since all MacBooks and iMacs uses intel CPU’s (could be wrong however). Besides, Samsung’s two leading phones, S8 and Note 8, are pretty much kings of the hill. I’m on a 6S and don’t really see any worth in the new iPhones. Even the X falls short of the S8. Only thing that stops me jumping back to Android is the crap application support, constant bugs and holes in the OS and the eventual slow down, whereas my 6S is as fast today as it was 2 years ago. Just a shame really... I wish Jobs was still here, we’d be seeing something revolutionary by now, not just some tactic to make Apples shareholders pockets better lined. Such a sham.
