Seems a good price relative to elsewhere and other high-end phones, But as you say it is still a phenomenal amount of money. It amazes me how people can discuss on this website what a bargain they have found because they have uncovered a deal with £100 off a phone that is over £1000!!
Like you, i have plenty of older Apple products in the house.

I doubt it - take a look at iPhone 7 prices and you'll see Apple don't really drop prices much for older models.

I do agree that it's a really high price to pay for a phone though. I'm quite happy with my iPhone 6 I got for £155 on eBay - especially after the free battery replacement.

It’s a discontinued model...
So its Upto resellers they may go down further to clear the stock in holiday season!!

I don't think resellers have that sort of licence to discount Apple products - which helps them hold their value so well in the second hand market.

On models no longer sold by Apple sure they do. Before anyone mentions it, the 7 is still sold by Apple though.

Seriously doubt that! The iPhone X is 90+% the same as the XS (and has a much better screen than the XR) and is holding at £600-£700 on eBay

I might have agreed but I bought one on eBay a couple of months ago for £700 and I think it’s a brilliant phone. At this price it is getting close to high-end phone prices from other manufacturers

Some people have to have the latest. Plenty upgrades going on to the Xs when there's quite little in it as you point out.
This or the XR at £749?

depends on what is more important to you, I would go test them both out. X has better screen and dual lens camera. Xr has newer processor, slightly bigger screen and much better battery life and possibly 1 extra year of software updates. I don't think you can go wrong with either!
Hot. Great price for phone that is basically the same as the XS (£999). Would also choose this over XR for the OLED screen and telephoto camera, plus it’s more compact to hold than XR in all dimensions.

Thank you. Any unbiased reviews on the XR online yet?

Ones I have seen say the XR is “good enough” to sell well - while still noting that neither the screen nor the camera are as good as the X/XS. One review noted the larger bezels as well.

Any John Lewis discount codes that work on this? Potential 1% TopCashBack?
I’ve been lucky enough to own an iPhone X and now an iPhone XS. The differences feel very minor and barely noticeable. Face ID may seem a fraction faster but it doesn’t feel noticeably faster otherwise. I’m sure the difference would be apparent in a side by test but it’s not obvious in everyday use.

The most significant benefit for me is being able to adjust the depth of field (aperture control) with a slider after taking the photo. I’m sure Apple could have added that to the iPhone X but wanted to hold something back to distinguish the iPhone XS.

For me, I much prefer the iPhone X over an XR for the 2x telephoto lens that I love. If that’s not important for you though then the XR looks like a much better deal. I love OLED screens and wouldn’t buy a non-OLED TV, but on a phone I’m not sure it’s important unless you really do watch films on it - it’s far too small for me. On an iPad maybe, but not a phone.

I agree with mattym - I cant imagine being disappointed with either the X, XS or XR. They are all stunning phones.

On any item it’s always the retailer who sets the price. The manufacturer can have a recommended rental price, but essentially it’s up to the retailer to set their own prices.

This is true and whilst price fixing isn't legal there's a tendency to preserve it among Apple resellers for current models.
