Just noticed this, I think it's the newest model. I bought the 2012 version posted here a few weeks ago, very pleased with it, my first real Mac.
Hope this helps someone

2012 version is better in my opinion as you can upgrade the ram to 16gb.
This is the lowest spec mac mini which is still a good machine especially for a media center player connected to a tv.
Heat added anyway because it's a mac.

If this is the 4GB version...avoid. The Ram is soldered on and can't be upgraded meaning we will see a lot more of these refurbished models soon when people don't want them.

but 4gb is more than enough for most.....for surfing email and HTPC duties no more is needed...but yes power users might want to avoid.....

I sold my 2012 model last week with keyboard and trackpad for £400 so this is a great price

Mrb like mentioned your 2012 version is actually better due to the upgradeability. They had some 2012 models for sale early this morning but looks like they have sold them.

No they were slightly faster.

The only advantage the new one has is (slightly) faster intergrated graphics.

Who in their right minds spends 350 quid on an xmbc machine, and then gets one with this spec?

It's a great deal for an Apple, but it's horrifying for something to run xmbc on.

Better buying a Banana Pi for xbmc, you could get 100 for 350..still fruity if you must buy a computer named after a fruit.
cheers

Who in their right minds would pay £350 for this spec a machine, again the brainwashed Apple fan boys are out in force trying to defend the obviously low end spec machine.

People pay ~£300 for an Intel NUC i5 and that lacks RAM, Storage and an O/S so by comparison this is a deal!

@Heavyweight
Apologies... 10 x Banana Pi. Maths obviously not my good subject!!

I agree they too seem fool hardy but as they say a fool and his money are soon parted!

Great price for an entry level Mac that people can see if they like OS X or not. I use mine for Kodi etc but it can do a whole lot more. It's small, you can hook it up to your TV and it just works.

better to get a 2012 mac if your into speed as they can have 16gb ram installed, also you can chamge the processor chip on the 2012 mac to that of an iphone processor which means theres less of a risk of a virus and they are really fast

Change the processor chip? I've got 2 2012 Mac Mini's, have upgraded the memory but I've never heard of the processor upgrade. I've upgraded numerous older Mac Mini's with C2D processors.

It's shame you can't use the Banana Pi as a calculator.

rip off. You could get a decent PC new for that price

Ignoring the initial outlay, resale prices of Apple products are strong.

If you sold it at a later date the total cost might be lower.

Any suggestions for a PC that is as small, quiet and reliable with good resale value that betters the Mac Mini spec? I ask because I am thinking about buying a Mac after hearing good things but interested to hear about potentially better alternatives.

Decide whether you want OSX or not, if you want OSX then you need to buy the Mac Mini unless you want to build a Hackintosh which is more technical and has limitations.

Already have an Apple TV, no thanks.

I sold my Apple TV. Next to useless IMO, mine just collected dust. A Mac Mini (2012) now sits under my TV stand, and is used FAR more often. I use it as a Plex Server/ Player, Kodi occasionally and it handles all my downloads. Frees up my MacBook Pro so it's not boiling hot all the time too!

But will it blend... I mean, does it have AirPlay?

Not for video (there's ways around that though I think, but I don't need to look into it so I haven't bothered), but it does for audio through Kodi.

I don't use Airplay though. Stopped using Apple phones/ tablets a couple years ago, and even when I did I never used airplay apart from for my MacBook Pro and it wasn't very useful for what I wanted to do (screen mirroring) it made all of the audio etc lag behind by a second or 2.
