But don't you know, it doesn't matter if you like mac better or want a mac, a PC is better and cheaper. Even though this is a good deal for a mac, it's not a good deal for a pc. Don't you know! Its coming...

the proccesor is the best bit bout it but even that aint that good wait till they release better proccessors

These can be used as servers right?

But, it's a great spec for a mac...my mini (1Gb RAM and 1.6GHz processor) runs snow leopard smooth as butter.

It would be a delight on this machine...probably as smooth as Windows 7 on twice the processor and 4Gb of RAM.

Efficiency...oh yeh!

Oh I totally agree. Considering a slightly faster processor is 150 more from apple now, this is a great deal. I have a macbook pro, and I love it. I'm just surprised there havn't been more negative pc related posts as per usual.

I'd be looking to upgrade the RAM if you are doing anything slightly demanding. It's not that difficult to do if you have patience.

Sorry...i didn't read "don't you know" as sarcasm tags

There should be an internet standard for them, as there are thousands of ad-hoc ones ;-)

If you're not doing video/graphics work, I'd say it's not really needed.

I do a lot of music production on mine and it's happy with 1Gb even though quite a bit is going on.

More is better, but I wouldn't say it was essential for the average use of a Mac Mini.

Voted Hot!

the best compact computer ever IMHO I run one as a media device connected to my plasma.
and another older powerpc model as a ftp server. no I'am not an apple fan boy as my other comps are all Windows

us linux users have the last laugh!!

Has anyone ever used these people before? Given Apples obsessive price control, its very unusual to see discounts.

What are you on about

I have windows 7 running fine on a p4 with 1gb ram:thumbsup:

It's an old model, so they are probably clearing them out:thumbsup:

Voted hot for 2 reasons, 1) coz of the Mac and 2) coz of the OP's Avatar!, guitar smurf, now that takes me back.

Just to make sure nobody misread the post...

This machine has 1gb of memory. Not 4gb.

Yep, and Jigsaw are one of the biggest uk suppliers of Apple stuff - Used them multiple times.

Jeez - I thought this was a discussion on whether or not this is a good deal for the item described in the post.
No the usual "is PC better than Mac" discussion - get a grip!!
jomppa - hot from me mate, I like Macs and can afford nice things - Love my iMac 24"!!

This would make an excellent media server, I have an old G4 mac mini hooked up to my TV and it works really well. Hot deal

Yep, older model but still one of the new generation ones with a Core 2 and Mini DVI - this will support extended desktop setups which is the only thing I am really missing on my 1.6 Core Duo. Very tempted to upgrade!

They are simply fantastic machines and as above have other great uses and media hubs and servers, fast and silent, I'm running 2GB ram in mine and it runs Snow Leopard like a dream.

Runs XP / Win 7 absolutely fine too so you can have the best of both worlds.

Thanks god Apple dumped Intel's GMA!
This has a decent-ish graphics card, a Core 2 Duo processor and is very compact - might be a better bet than an AppleTV or other internet TV device?

Have fancied a Mac for a while now, dunno why though, just took a fancy for one, know basically nothing about them.

I recently ordered a Dell Zino HD (X2 1.8Ghz, 1TB, 6GB etc, HD4330) must say I love it, probably aimed to compete with this.

I will eventually own an apple though, if I hadn’t of bought the Dell I would have had a crack at this, but I would have wanted an apple screen about 24”, suppose they are mental money?

So is this a:

Nettop?
Media server?
Business computer?
Gaming machine?

Whichever option you chosses it's either:

Expensive
Expensive
Not a PC
Not a PC

Of course, if it's for design work and can handle serios stuff then it's a bargain, otherwise check out the competition!

Would this be fast enough for H.264 / other 1080p decoding when running something like xbmc or maybe boxee? I gather plex is 720 only. I just wish it had hdmi

Hot. Pretty good price. Although the model is old, it's at a good price point for an Apple.

hot! i have this very one...use it on my 37". i love front row feature where i can watch movies big and clear, also use it to edit videos, publish work and for uni. its everything combined in one as i use it a a pirmary dvd player and cd player as i have it hooked up to a kef surround sound. best thing i have ever purchased. one bad point i have to make is NOTHING HAHA! well you have to buy separate monitor, keyboard and mouse, but that depends on what you want to spend and what tou already have at home. i got a wireless keyboard and magic mouse, you can by all means buy a wired one if you want for cheap. for all the radical window fans out there, stop trying to defend your beloved windows when it has nothing to do with this deal, always on a defensive. but if you still have fat fingers then you can also run windows 7 on the mac as a virtual machine via boot camp, i have it but dont use it becuase its not as good a snow leapard imo.

Yasmo.Would you recommend this as a media streamer?

Taken at face value given the specification it's not a great PC.

Generally you don't get money off or a discount on a Mac; Apple tend to protect their brand image and keep prices high, they do a just a good a job as Rolex ! Therefore on that basis it must be a good deal.

It's a shame some elements of this thread have come down whether a PC or MAC is best.

As an aside a few years ago I purchased an Apple Monitor from John Lewis in their clearance section (it was pristine) for £320, RRP was £450. Sold it on eBay two years later for £280.

And sandals

:whistling:

Well I'm surrounded by PCs at home and used them for years - but my iMac was the best investment I ever made - expensive yes, niche, yes - but worth it and would recommend them to anyone using a PC who is disillusioned with rebuilds, crashes and Windows in general.

I see a computer as collection of components running an operating system, in a case. That's what it's worth.

This computer has a couple of things going for it. It's small and quiet and it runs Mac software.

However the spec is very poor for the money. Even if you said Snow Leopard was worth £100, you're still paying nearly £300 for a small low spec box.

How come other companies can put together a laptop with a screen and faster cpu, vastly larger HDD, 3x more RAM, a battery, better optical drive, a keyboard, trackpad, OS etc for less money than this? Is this the best they can do for your money?

Obviously they spend a lot more on advertising and shiny stores, so someone has to pay for that.

Well I'd say its all of them except for a gaming machine.

I don't have much use for one of these at the moment, but if I did then this is a bargain. Just a quick question, is this easy to hook up to a telly? If so then it would be a VERY nice piece of kit with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Just a shame it doesn't do blu-ray.

does anyone know whether this is one of the mac minis that has a display port and a mini dvi in the back so you can use dual screens?

If you want the best price for the specific item then use a price comparison site.

They're not actually that bad, probably only £50-100 more than similar screens - although of course being Apple the ergonomics suck so if you want a decently adjustable stand you'll have to factor in the cost of that as well.

It should do, the 9400M has h.264 decoding acceleration, although I don't know what Mac OS support for that sort of thing is like.

probably make profit on fleabay

such a low spec apple for such a huge price tag

you can build a high end pc double the speed for less than that

apples are overated too expensive for low spec models
