I was just looking at the other Deal for 2017 12" Macbook and came across this one. Not sure how good is this in compare to the other deal but this one is 2018 Model with Retina Display so think it might be better. Also, it is only available in Gold colour so, might not be to everyone's taste. Also, there will be Topcashback/Quidco on top of this and if you get any discounted voucher like me then it could be another 6-8% off.

There was no 2018 model, it was released in 2015, revised in 2016 and revised once more in 2017.... This is the same MacBook as the other deals with the 7th gen processors

Apple changed the gold colour that’s why it’s classed as a 2018 model. That is the only difference between them all

Shame about the keyboard.

Or for the price of what is essentially a premium netbook (let’s face it) you could buy a Windows laptop with a decent GPU and a half decent Chromebook.

Macbook 12” has its place and great for travelling with but it is fairly limiting. Also, the caveats about the keyboard breaking in the other thread still apply.
It's not better. In fact, it's worse as it's the same model as John Lewis (only a different colour), but JL give you 2 year warranty.

Such as the Ancient Egyptians
2 year old dual-core CPU and keyboard that is known to have a defect, Apple macbooks have fallen a long way since I last brought one.
I'll give it a miss, saving up for a monitor stand, only another 980 quid to go.

What is wrong with the m3 exactly? It’s the same Core architecture at 4.5W TDP.

Nicolas07/06/2019 19:02

Yes in 1926!

Not judging by iPhone sales in that colour or the number of them you see in the Middle East and Asia!

M3 is a very weak processor in comparison to i5/i7, which at this price level is what I ld expect.

Middle East and Asia? We are in Europe not Middle East and Asia.

The fact that you just claim it’s rubbish compared to the ‘i5 or i7’ shows you have fallen for the marketing... the i5 and i7 Y series chips have a few hundred Mhz boost more and nothing else, same architecture, same silicon. The m3 is just an i3 branded as an m3... surely by now you realise that ‘at this price level’ you are paying for more than just a CPU...

I can’t be bothered to get into the gold argument with you. I said it tongue-in-cheek but didn’t want to be perceived as racist - however being a diverse nation many ethnicities prefer the gold colour scheme for iPhones and MacBooks, take a look around next time you’re out and about.

You are clueless.

Did you miss the part where the two other CPUs you’re comparing it to have over 3x the TDP, twice the cores and are a generation newer? In that case why not compare the Core m3 to an AMD Threadripper or a desktop i7 K series? Why don’t you try comparing a Core m3 to a Core i5 Y series - eg like-for-like...

Not clueless at all, but if u actually take a minute and listen rather than dish out, my point is at this price point (this machine retails for over a grand, but even at 800) I expect the latest i5 processor as a minimum.
You can buy a gorgeous Microsoft stock surface with a very decent screen and very small compact portable form on offer for 699 or even cheaper, that has latest i5 8th gen. in comparison this laptop with an older and M3 processor is bad value. It’s gorgeous form and style but poor processor.
And on that note we can simply agree to disagree, just cause I have an opinion that disagrees with yours don’t throw your milk shake at me
Oh and by the way I am normally an apple follower but apple kept creeping up their prices while not offering any ground breaking tech or innovations.

You made a terrible comparison and then tried to smugly shove it in my face when you know precisely why this Macbook costs what it does and it’s nothing to do with the hardware. There is the Air and Pro range for those who want U-series CPUs that run faster, this has a Y-series because it’s extremely thin and light - you pay more for this. The Surface is a different form factor and doesn’t include the keyboard at that price.

My point is you can’t just say ‘m3 bad, i5 good’ because the i5 range is huge and covers from 4.5W dual cores all the way up to hex core chips. So it doesn’t matter that it’s ‘just an m3’ (which isn’t terrible either as you’ve posted in every thread) because they could just have easily called it an i3.

They are the same silicon and architecture, so no it’s not a Fiesta and a Porsche, it’s like a two Fiestas with the same engine but one is tuned higher. Anyway yes it’s a free country but you still don’t know what you’re talking about and I’m sure you’ll ramble some other stuff in laptop threads pretending you do. Hopefully no-one will take it seriously and be misled though.

Ok sorry, you are right, it’s like a Porsche with a fiesta engine, better ?;)
No you are right I am not obviously an expert as u r, as u seem to know more than the professional pass mark teams that actually test the cpus in labs.
It’s a shit processor overpriced put inside a pretty shell. Hope u don’t loose sleep about that.

In comparison the same people on here who won’t take me seriously can go buy a gorgeous latest surface with latest i5 8th gen and a fantastic screen which happened to also be touch screen unlike this which bizarrely hasn’t got a touch screen either. The surface with the Amex offer cost as little as 650
Directly from Microsoft or 680 from ao or 699 from Currys. You can also add a sd card to the surface unlike this apple that you have to fork another 60-70 quid for their adaptor dongle to allow u to connect anything as it only comes with the power c hole. And it doesn’t have sd card slot either.

Please be polite, you are doing it again, cause I disagree with you are being offensive and aggressive.

The surface that’s constantly on offer on here from ao, from curry’s themselves and even John Lewis is the latest surface with the keyboard , 8th gen i5 and 8RAM, it’s also touch screen and has a sd slot.
I am not talking about the m3 or 4 ram surface.
But alas we disagree, I ll respect your opinion but you can’t insult me and force me into submission. Learn how to accept different views even if you don’t agree with it.

You’re such a hypocrite I’m not going continue wasting my breath. It’s ok for you to come on here and say something is s**t when you haven’t even bothered to do the research properly but as soon as someone calls you on it you try and turn it on them. I don’t care if you respect my opinion or facts or not, this MacBook’s m3 CPU is fine and you are paying a premium for the engineering and design (even if flawed).

I’m not forcing you into anything - if you want to pretend that a m3-7y30 vs i5-8250U is a fair or realistic comparison in your head, good for you.

Amazing finally we are on the same page, keyword “flawed” your own admission.

I am not a hypocrite or dense or any of the vile words you aggressively throw around just cause someone dared disagree with your opinion. I can call u all the names under the sun but I won’t let u bring me down to your level . Instead I ll leave u with two very simple facts even u can get.

1. For this same price you can buy a similar laptop form weight portability design etc in the shape of a surface or other laptops with a i5 and even i7.

2. The attached shows the difference in power between a m3 and exact i5 8th gen which you get in the surface pro which is on offer cheaper than this laptop with a m3. The apple is not a better laptop than the surface, in fact it has a keyboard that many people don’t get on with, it has no touch screen it has no sd card and u can’t connect anything to it as it has only one connection for the power. So forgive me for saying that aside from gorgeous design it’s poor on every other level and for the money it’s not good.

37812800.jpg

And it’s ok if u don’t agree with my opinion or think it’s not clever or clued or or but alas I am entitled to my opinion even if u think it’s bonkers

Do you know what, you just showed your ignorance in that last comment, surface pro is very much the direct comparison to the Mac, similar portability size shape etc even screen size is near identical so yes it’s a comparable, while a gaming laptop 3 times as heavy and bulky is not comparable. A surface pro

Size: 11.5 x 7.9 x 0.33 inches (292 x 201 x 8.5mm; W x D x H) ...
Weight: 1.7 pounds (771g)

Apple Mac
Height: 0.35–1.31 cm (0.14‑0.52 inches)
Width: 28.05 cm (11.04 inches)
Depth: 19.65 cm (7.74 inches)
Weight: 0.92 kg (2.03 pounds)

Appears the surface is lighter and more compact !

The fact that you're comparing Windows tablets/laptops to a MacBook on specification alone shows you just don't get it.

Well done on those figures: the Surface Pro with Type Cover weighs 1.08kg. Great research as always...

Except not everyone takes the cover everywhere, that’s the beauty of the surface you can take the screen itself without the cover, lighter and even thinner than the Mac, example flying watching movies or reading or the cover is in the office or you have a fixed keyboard at your desk. But even with the cover it’s small compact and light.
Get one try it, it’s a gorgeous screen too, but so many other great gorgeous laptops such as yoga 9 series or dell XP’s all come on offer for a similar price as this apple which has a dodgy keyboard, no touch screen no connectivity no sd slot and a poor processor

I've had a Surface Pro 3 since 2014 (I leave the cover on) and an XPS 13. I sold the MacBook 12" last year for keyboard issues, nothing to do with the CPU.

But as you've continued to gloss over, you can't compare Windows and Apple laptops on hardware alone - if someone wants Mac OS then only a Mac will do, and that is the end of it.
