The most loved Mac is about to make you fall in love all over again. Available in silver, space grey and gold, the new thinner and lighter MacBook Air features a brilliant Retina display with True Tone technology, Touch ID, the latest-generation keyboard and a Force Touch trackpad. The iconic wedge is created from 100 per cent recycled aluminium, making it the greenest Mac ever. And with all-day battery life, MacBook Air is your perfectly portable, do-it-all notebook.

With a resolution of 2560x1600 for over 4 million pixels, the results are positively jaw-dropping. Images take on a new level of detail and realism. Text is sharp and clear. And True Tone technology automatically adjusts the white point of the display to match the colour temperature of your environment — making web pages and email look as natural as the printed page. With 48 per cent more colours than the previous generation, everything you see is rich and vibrant.

The advanced security and convenience of Touch ID are now built directly into MacBook Air. Simply place your finger on the Touch ID sensor and — just like that — your Mac unlocks. Use your fingerprint to immediately access locked documents, notes and system settings, without entering yet another password. Online shopping is even easier — select Apple Pay at checkout, and with just one touch you're done. With Touch ID, your private information stays private.

I've had 4 macs and IMHO the Surface is a better machine. I never got my 3D printer to work with the mac for example tried for ages.

Worked first time on my new Surface and the battery lasts way longer. I'm a convert.

What is? Not betting able to get my 3D printer to work?

That's not preference it's what made me go and buy the Surface, now that I have it I prefer the SP7. That part is my preference yes, but the printer isn't.
2 whole cores. Wow.
Typical trolling that you could have Windows machine for half price of MacBook Air.

So your problem was macos? You know you can boot to Windows in a mac right?

Kinda defeats the point though. Macs don't compete very well on hardware so all they have is OS.

You asked who wants a surface pro... then when he give you a reason why he wants one, you say that’s preference? How is this even a deal? Free Microsoft office for a 1k laptop. Wow amazing.

? 10 years ago I would have wanted an Apple Mac just for build quality. Now I can buy an acer swift for £500 that looks better and out performs this.

It’s a poor deal at best.

I still have an old MacBook Air kicking about. It was a great looking laptop in its time.

Yes but some people buy their laptops purely on the basis of looks

That's very true. And that's where apple previously excelled.

Exactly that’s why there is no surprise that market share is slipping on sales for new devices at apple.

Well looks is entirely subjective. I would say the spectre and folio look much better. No idea how good they are to use but they certainly look the part.

The spectre is shocking and the folio is just a b tec version of the surface pro
I updated my phone to Xs and I’m just utterly underwhelmed, you have innovative designs by Sony, Samsung and Motorola. Laptop wise every manufacturer are producing aluminium bodied laptops now. There is no wow factor from this machine, but that’s my opinion. I just don’t see how a £1000 for an underpowered laptop is a good deal.

Not that I would ever buy a computer based on looks, mostly because I need it for work though.

If you need mac OS you don't have many options. I don't know who needs mac OS but doesn't need powerful specs though. Maybe music people? Though I assume they could still benefit from more than 2 cores.

Not sure either why guys would need it, but if you do fair enough. I’ll just be sitting here happy with my £500 laptop. With a spare £500 that I can buy 2000 mars bars with.

Now your name makes sense.
My Mac Air from 2013 is still up and running (typing this on it now) - handles most things fine... even the small amount of video editing and photoshop I do. Tempted to pick up another Mac next year for the sheer fact the build quality is proven to me. The one laptop I may consider over it is the Dell XPS. Does anyone have experience with these in terms of how long they last? Find lots of good reviews for them, but little on how they are doing after 3/4/5 years, etc.
Thanks all!

My fiance uses an xps 13 at home and a 15 at work. She loves them, especially the 13. Not had it for long enough to really compare but we do still have laptops older than 2013 that work. I've just loaned a lenovo from I think 2012 and she has hot pink hp which is ancient that works.

There is nothing impressive in lasting the last few years as hardware moved fairly slowly. They all use the same stuff inside.

I think it will depend on which model you buy. I think they vary massively in price, spec and build quality.

People who want greater vesitility, quad core, touch screen, face unlock, more applications, greater compatibility. Oh and of course a free tablet mode thrown in to sweeten the deal.
