M2 MacBook Air with 512GB SSD - Seen the base 256GB posted here but not the 512GB model. This model does not suffer with the slower read/write performance reported on the 256GB base model.

Almost comparable to student prices but you’ll be missing out on the £120 gift card.

People should get the 16gb ram upgrade instead of the 512gb hdd. Performance will be better that way. But nobody should be paying over £1000 for the base level of this laptop.

Hard choice cause the base 256gb SSD is supposed to perform quite a bit slower than the 512gb chip

"The Definitive M2 MacBook Air Review"

Conclusion : The M1 Air and 14" Macbook Pro offer far better value and are two of the best computers ever made and for that reason he can't recommend the M2 Air to almost anyone. (edited)

Pound for pound the m1 air has still got to be a better deal than this

£1399 + the apple care , not even 16gb ram for this price mark , cold deal and ripoff

Good discount, but IMHO you'd be better off paying £300 extra and getting a refurbished 14'' MacBook Pro - apple.com/uk/…ray (edited)
    Avatar
You cannot justify paying extra , pro is pro air is air , the air is catered to 95% of the average person worldwide eco system or not , the M1 had it nailed under £1000 which should be the max price for the average person . 512gb min and 16gb ram max for air especially in 2022.

Apple is taking a serious gamble against the windows brands with amd ryzens, intel 12th gen may I add - oled screens statistics proven to better eye care , some come with 360 flips like Samsung and ASUS who are up and coming listening to customers, great pens , battery life getting better .

This is why competition is always great vs a monopoly.

Cold - terrible price for a terrible laptop, even by Apple's own standards. SSD performance on the 256GB model is halved and the thermal throttling is worse than on the M1 MacBook Air. You can almost buy 2x M1 MacBook Airs for this sort of money, which can do everything this thing can. Or pay a few hundred more and move up to a MacBook Pro.

Apple should be embarrassed to release this trash heap -- considering even their M1 iPad Pro came with 16GB RAM for less money than this.

You can get the MBP 14 base model from very for £1562 after 10% credit back to account. Better off paying the extra for that unless you really need this lightweight form factor.
    Avatar
Is it 10% back even if you pay the credit upfront? Their wording is weird it seems that the 20or10% are on credit interest which is not interesting as you’d pay in total way more than 1562£ ive never used them so maybe i don’t understand the conditions but seems too good to be true

    8GB!!!!
    Avatar
Yes 8GB is too little in 2022 the Snazzy Labs reviews I posted below states that 8GB is too little on this machine, that's Apple for you though.

These thermal throttle really badly for some reason Apple have removed the thermal load heatsink that was on the M1 model probably cost saving or to artificially limit performance. The M1 Air is a much better deal and showing up under £900 at a few places now and £879 at Costco. (edited)

You could get a used 14 inch MacBook Pro M1 on eBay with 16gb ram & 512gb SSD, better screen,120hz refresh rate, better battery, better sound, more ports for £1400
    Avatar
That's what I did. And It also has apple warranty that ends in a few months.

I want an Macbook Air, but was looking at the M1 as this is £200 more
Is it worth the extra money?
Looks like the reviews aren't that favourable
Mainly want it to watch movies/youtube, edit some pics, browse web so nothing too strenuous (edited)
    Avatar
No. Wait for a deal on the M1 Air - it drops to £800 or so frequently, then scoop one up.

I wanted a new MacBook, and I wanted the air but by the time you’ve given it 16gb and 512gb to make it worthy, it brought it so close to the price of the MacBook Pro 14 which has a better processor, a brighter screen (iirc) and more ports.

It should be 16gb minimum, however UK pricing is outrageous. I got mine ordered from the US with a UK layout keyboard as my friend was travelling there. Saved about £300 making it a much easier bitter pill to swallow. I bought myself a Macbook pro 14 with 1TB for £1850 from the Amazon US a few months back, but again a family member was visiting so managed to get him to be my mule. We Brits get shafted when it comes to pricing. (edited)

The fact they put a notch on this thing without centre stage baffles me. M1 is a much better deal..
    Avatar
Yes it's very odd. Overall I much prefer the m2 macbook air design and mostly the screen brightness. If you've got an m1 mba then you can skip the m2 mba. Not a substantial improvement, but for people who are looking to buy a laptop, I'd recommend getting a student discount (£100 off). For me they've improved the M1 mba in areas where I had complaints. Technically they've "added" or "freed" up a port and also increased the screen brightness. And that midnight colour is soo cool although a massive finger print magnet!
