I have no idea why you'd want one, but the price is decent

Can never understand how these are so overpriced for the spec, yes it is ultra thin, but the spec is hopeless saying you are looking at over £800...

What sort of standard laptop could you get for £800 these days...

For £800 you could get the following from Dell...

Intel Core Duo 2,4Ghz
500gb Hard Drive
4Gb Ram
512mb Graphics
Blu-Ray drive
Windows vista Premium 64Bit
15.6” High Definition+ (1600x900) LED Display
Wireless N Adapter...

A lot of you may think "Apple and "Dell" Chalk and Cheese, but without looking at the kudos of the Apple badge which one represents the better value for money?

The Apple OS requires a lot lower spec than a Windows OS so you can't really compare.

Buy a fiat if you prefer, but for me, it's german all the way :P

You are better off buying one of the new 13" MacBook Pros for around this price. Even the pro models are pretty light, thin and absolutely gorgeous to look at. And you get a faster processor, DVD drive, more storage and up-to 8gb ram.

As for the Dell comparison, don't make me laugh. Apple makes the best computers on earth, and Mac OS is a million times better than that Windows rubbish.

Said like a right bunch of "Blinkered" Mac users...

"Oh, I know, I will pay 3 times the going rate for my computer, just because it has a Mac Badge on the front of it"....

My first computer was a Mac Performa 4/40, but at least I grew out of them and saw them for what they really were, overpriced and over rated....

Well said! Window OS is utter p**s compared to Mac OS - and the machines are built to a standard, not a price like the cheap Dell rubbish. Fair enough if you havent seen the light, but Apple wins all the way once you've had your eyes opened. :-D

LOL "blinkered"........whatEVER!

HOT,excellent price for a macbook air

This is good value for a Air, but you would be so much better off getting the Macbook Pro 13" if you are after a Mac. There just too much compromises on the Air for the design.

lol haha, I think the irony is that Dells are built in Ireland and Apples made in China...

I find it rather comforting that the pretentious style over substance brigade shell out oodles for such trite .Whereas the more practical pay less for less glamorous machines which at the end of the day make the world tickover.

threadspoiling posts reported

Already a flawed thread.

Well, if you want a virus free computing solution coupled with the world's most advanced operating system, the Apple platform is for you.

I for one dont ever want to have to re-install an entire OS due to infection...

Personally I would happily pay the premium for that alone, aside from the fact that aesthetically, MacBooks rule!

Anyhow, things have moved on quite substantially since the Performa 4/40 was a current model

i cant believe people actually pay this price it's like buying a sports car's shell with a metro's engine.

And before you moan at me i am a it technician for a college and i work with mac's and windows pc's.

Let me ask you all do you have any idea how long it takes to install a mac os on a mac machine.

2 days is about average so if your mac ever goes wrong expect a huge labour bill especially if you want additional software installed.

All in all mac's look pretty and are easy to use but if they ever go wrong you might as well buy a new one.

This is my experience running a school with 300 mac's and 800 windows pc's and that's what i am basing this off.

So what about the cost of replacement Mac Parts??

A mate of mine upgraded his Macbook Pro last week from 4gb to 8gb, and the extra 4gb cost him £250....

That's the industry price for the high-performance memory chips Apple uses in its professional systems. My MacBook Pro uses RAM that costs £600 to upgrade from 2x2gb to 2x4gb. Needless to say, I won't be upgrading until prices fall dramatically.

Most bargain basement PCs use cheap low performance RAM. Us Apple users demand better.

I prefer Windows 7 over OS X now.

This is a good price for this model though. The Dell Adamo is more expensive than this (but does have better components iirc)

Actually you have a good point as my college normally spend £1000 + on a mac.

However the windows pc's are from rm and there cheap samsung ram is always breaking

But the pc's only cost around £200 each.

But if you have a 3-5 year warranty with a windows machine then it doesn't matter.

However i must say photography and music teachers love mac's so i guess it is up to you to decide

Yes if you buy the ram from Apple. You can buy the same brand online for the a fraction of the price.

Go on to say Toshiba/Lennovo etc and price their RAM upgrades, it'll be the same inflated prices/

More fool your Mate. :-D

Oh and I reinstalled my Macbook for the first time since it's purchase 3 years ago - totally formatted it then installed the OS, Aperture,CS4, Firewall + other windows alternatives - 3 hours start, format and finished.

PS - I laugh at the poster who says 2 days. You did one of those "Learn IT qualifications from home and get a job which pays £100k a year with Microsoft" courses didn't you?

Wow, the Mactard fanboys are in here in full force.

While it's a good price for a Macbook air, for what it is, it's a really crap price, even if it IS pretty. If you want a small and light laptop, get a Netbook. If you want a good powerfull laptop, get a laptop (or a propepr Macbook)! This is just an expensive half arsed attempt at a Netbook from Apple. My £250 EEEPC can run OSX86 well enough and is smaller and lighter than this.

We can all try and pretend like this wont turn into a Mac Vs Windows trolling thread, but it's hard to stop fanboys.

Actually as i said it's due to the amount of software we use we have 3 programs that are 20gb+

Plus our os for apple's are modified with added security features so the kids cant hack our severs.

But it's strange that our windows pc's can do the same software and os install in 4 hours.

Anyway im staying out of this now as i am going out for diner.

Also dont let me put any of you off i am just saying mac's are not as easy to repair or cheap

Not irrelevant at all, in my opinion there are better machines out there to be had for this price... its not a case or whether or not I like apple, its about pure simple value for money... Apple know they have a cult following and they take advantage of it....

Not true, in any case, since Windows 7 runs as happily on my netbook as does Snow Leopard. But then, what use is a notebook without applications? Fine if you just want to boot it up, admire it and then shut it down again.

Both are manufactured in China or Taiwan. Dells are merely assembled and boxed in Ireland. My Apple software was also boxed and shipped from Ireland. That is down to taxes rather than build quality, you will find.

It is getting harder to recommend the MB Air, since the latest 13" Macbook Pros have improved screen panels. One of the reasons not to get a Macbook (as was) was their very substandard washed-out screens. Heat and noisy fans remain a problem with the latest Macbook Airs. I would go for the Macbook Pro given a choice.

Build the most anorexic lappy possible.Put an incompatable os on it.Slap a mutilated apple logo on it.Then to get those Macaphiles dribbling put a massive price on it.Surely some kind of masochistic loyalty?

u pay for the desgine

Having used pc's for years. I have recently crossed over to mac, Without doubt the best decision I have ever made.

I am a music producer and the stability and reliability of the mac is faultless. Everything is easier to use, quicker, simpler and for peace of mind when working on big projects there is nothing better.

I agree with most, that the AIR is a bit of a novelty design and there are certainly better buys out there for the money. but it is relatively new technology that is being fitted into a smaller space. it can but improve!!!!

For general every day to day use, im pretty sure anything spent over £500 - would do the trick whether mac or pc. However for the professional field (music, film , photography) mac are the industry flagship and worth the extra premiums in my honest opinion.

It's like a British Rail sandwich - dead thin with f**k-all inside! :whistling:
