Macbook air 2017 edition is on sale at Argos for £829 128GB version. £20 cheaper than Currys even when using the voucher code. Otherwise it is £899 at Currys.

It doesn't state it is a sale but I'm not sure how long the price will last.

How old is that i5 CPU? "2017" so I assume that means 2016/17 hardware right?

(_;)

£849 at John Lewis, could price match there instead

The 2017 edition in this case is i5 (5350U) which is Q2 2015 [64-bit "Fifth Generation" Intel Mobile Core i5 "Broadwell ULT" (I5-5350U)]

the "old" one 1.60 GHz was faster than the new "2017" edition

Is this exactly the same model as this one....apple.com/uk/…fig

2017 edition with a 2010 screen.

It used to be a competitive machine (in the Ultrabook scheme of things) but now its a complete joke.

The screen resolution is horrendous by 2017 standards

Yep. Model no: MQD32.

£849 at John Lewis if you want extra warranty!

They won't price match. They claim that their useless 2 year warranty means that they are not matching like for like.

Wow, that resolution, seriously!

Tarted up Linux laptop with poor screen.

128gb hard drive is just stingy in this day and age.

Breathe.

Have to be mental to choose this over the normal 'Retina' Macbook if it's only a Mac you'll take. I guess just be grateful they're giving you 8GB RAM not 4GB as with Airs in the past (8 was always CTO).

Not as powerful but a lot less, and perfectly good for everyday use, shipped from Spain.

Never had a problem with John Lewis matching Argos prices.

For the price it's beyond a joke. I really can't believe people buy these. I like Apple and don't mind paying the Apple Tax on something genuinely great (like the Retinas), but this is just a heap of garbage with a truly horrible screen.

Crikey, some bizarre comments on here!
I have a 2012 MacBook Air 11" 4GB/128GB - I'm not sure what some people use their computers for but as a professional graphic designer I designed and artworked a 62 square metre building wrap on mine.
I have no idea how it managed to keep up with me but it did it without falling over.
As a Mac user of 25 years I can confirm these MacBook Air's might not be the best spec's but don't be put off, they have solid foundations and I wouldn't be without my ageing 11" MBA.
