    I think this (the m1) is the far better value. Unless you have a specific use case for the M2, the M1 will cover all the use cases of the average user. I've had mine a year and a half now and it's still lasting 10-12 hours on battery for video playback. Best computer i've ever owned and it's not even close.

    Avoid buying apple. I have an issue with mine that they won’t fix. Even though it’s a known fault and there is a Service program, my machine is half a year outside the service program cut off dates. I thought they would make an exception given that it’s s known fault but nope. All apple care about is getting your money! Absolute sham of a company! Once they get your money they don’t care. Everything I have is apple but now they have lost my business. I’m changing all my tec once each one goes.

    Yeah, I have the same experience with a tablet which had discolouration but because it was apparently slightly bended they have refused even it was in warranty. The service is questionable but I like the devices anyway as I would not go for an Android any time soon again. (edited)

    You use Parallels to run Windows. £89.99, dunno if you can get any deals. Might be worth searching on HotUKDeals to see if you can get a better price.

    Managed to get this for like £799 last year from that insane Curry price match and trade in deal. Traded in my 2012 macbro pro so in the end paid only £450 lol.

    I took advantage of the same deal with my old MBP. The word “insane” is often overused, but in that particular case there’s no other term for it. I carried out my trade-in within the store and stood there smiling as they processed it, wondering when it was going to go wrong. Once I actually walked out of the store after being given twice what my old one was worth I sat in the car and laughed. I think it’s probably the best deal I’ve ever had.

    It’s a lovely laptop.

    Cold from me - I bought my M1 MBA new for £800 this time last year. Even allowing for rampant inflation, this is now an obsolete line and would be half price by now in a proper open market.

    Absolutely love mine. Ignore the specs. "M1" is the key spec. Went from an i7 32gb ram windows laptop to this "8gb" macbook.
    Lightning fast, completely silent as it doesn't have a fan or moving parts, display is good, keyboard is good, speakers are good. I never even turn it off. I charge it once a week, it's on the desk, I open the lid do some browsing, write emails, watch netflix. Close the lid. Best laptop I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of high end laptops.

    Same here, it’s a fantastic machine. I bought mine last year for £600 from Amazon Warehouse and it had a couple of battery cycles on it. People that haven’t used an Apple silicon device done realise how fast these are, how cool and quietly they run, and how long the battery lasts for. They just see the 8gb and think it performs like an 8gb Windows device which it really doesn’t. For the average user this is an absolutely superb machine.

    However though having said that though about what a great device it is, I don’t think it’s an especially hot deal seeing as it’s been available at various points over the past 18 months at this kind of price. Really you’d want to see it drop down a little more to be honest. (edited)

    Brilliant piece of kit. Highly recommended. The mba m2 doesn't offer £350 worth of added features (I own both). For most people this laptop is more than enough. Still pricey for a laptop however what you get for your money in terms of overall build quality and performance, hardly any laptop in this price point can match.

    I bought this on 28 November 2020 for £899.10.

    Of course we don’t have time machines and inflation etc. However… the trend should forever be that hardware becomes CHEAPER as it becomes redundant.

    £899 is certainly a good deal now, but it’s just a pity it is that way. At least the device I bought and have been enjoying has retained value over the 2 years.

    I’ll also mention it is the best computer I’ve owned. 8GB RAM flies with this M1. It is silent, never becomes hot. And the battery is completely next gen.

    In terms of power, it won’t break a sweat 4K video editing in FCP. (edited)

    I brought this as an ex display from JL at 799, honestly best laptop I’ve ever owned. Battery life for a laptop is great and also beats level entry gaming laptops on games which are supported on Macs. I play FM quite a lot on this and it works like a dream.

    I sold my warehouse one on too and regretted it as i'd paid £570 for the 512gb model. However look on facebook market place i picked up a 6 month old one for £500 in mint condition and low battery cycle so still with 6 months apple warranty on it.

    Everyone on facebook want £650 plus for their 256gb ones but they don't sell so eventually the seller drops - mine was £550 and she still hadn't sold it after 2 weeks so offered £500 and she snapped my arm off. (edited)

    We don’t have time machines I know. However last Oct I got an as new (unregistered with 1 charge cycle) MBAir M1 256GB 8GB RAM £530. I then sold my mid 2013 MBAir 13" with a battery that has around 60% charger less for £200.

    Just checked my charge cycle, its currently on 30 with 100% battery. I'm sure I'll have this for a long time until it needs replacing.

    So it cost £330 to upgrade to a new M1 MBAir.

    If you can wait, I'd wait for the Amazon sale. (edited)

    I don't think they will be doing it again. The 30% off was this time last year and I picked up several but this year they've done nothing like what we all scrambled for last year.

    Most recommends are for 16Gb RAM

    DaVinci Resolve 18 System Requirements
    • macOS 11 Big Sur.
    • 8 GB of system memory. 16 GB when using Fusion.
    • Blackmagic Design Desktop Video version 12.0 or later.
    • Integrated GPU or discrete GPU with at least 2 GB of VRAM.
    • GPU which supports Metal or OpenCL 1.2.

    For sure this is the best laptop I've ever owned. Its fast, silent and stays cool at all times.

    The M2 is some ways is a downgrade because of slower storage speed.

    The slower storage is only on the 256GB base model of M2 as it's using 1 x 256GB NAND chip instead of 2 x 128GB. In a dual configuration data can be read twice as fast on average due to parallel read/writes.

    Great laptop just the PWM screen and 60Hz flicker kills my head using it. It’s a shame as otherwise it would be the perfect everyday laptop. The M2 Air is flicker free but throttles massively on anything remotely taxing to the point the M1 is actually quicker. It’s also not worth the extra personally.

    Superb laptop - build quality blows any other intel laptop out of the water. Ignore the 8GB, the M apple silicon processor is what counts. I've got a Macbook Pro 14 M for work too - they are just solid quality pieces of kit. The battery life is mental! Go for it. A laptop which doesn't burn your lap off due to extreme heat and also has zero noise! (edited)

    Great laptop, make sure you put it in protective sleeve if you store in your bag, my nephews screen smashed when he came back from school, this is a very thin laptop.
