Some other Questions answered as per Amazon website:

Does this MacBook have UK warranty and UK mains out? 28 Oct 2014
As far as I can tell, both.... certainly the UK mains out.... and it has a pound sign on the keyboard so looks hopeful - I've not checked whether apple will honour the warranty though.... As far as I can tell it's a UK packaged model, all shrinked wrapped and new.

does this have a uk keyboard? 1 Dec 2014
Yes it has a uk keyboard.

Edited by: "getknk" 8th Mar 2015

I like that macs are popular. They're very profitable to trade.

Bear in mind the questions and answers on amazon relate to all versions/sellers and may not be specific to the one you're buying. Lots of these cheaper macbook pros are US imports.

Further down the answers: "Yes it is the one out now but with American keyboard you soon get used to that"

Warranty will be fine (it's worldwide), and to change to a UK plug is trivial and the seller will likely be supplying the adaptor/plug. The one downside if it is a grey import may be the US keyboard layout - worst it means is that the £ sign is accessed by pressing an extra key.

this all said - great price for a good quality machine.

I think there's an Apple launch tomorrow. I'd hold off until then to see what's announced. Most think a new MacBook Air but some say the Pro may get the Broadwell chip too.

128gb hd? Just not practical.

Can change the SSD on this model?

Can change the SSD on this model?

You can. But the issue is it is PCIe based SSD and is very costly as Apple changes these SSD models with every release !! Apple set their own standards, so no much competition available. 2014 13" replacement document

My god ... i5 processor for £879 ??
Hope you guys start looking outside your own compartment and relise that you have been fooled by Apple for so long ....

Fact: Apple is relying on very high profit margin from people who are brand fanatic ....

Good price, great machines. Combo of great os and decent spec makes the macs usable for a number of years and still retain a substantial amount of its value, not to mention very quick. I would personally bare in mind a new model is on the horizon and the 128GB SSD is the smallest. This may not bother some as many are turning to cloud based storage. This latest model is very difficult to swap out the SSD compared to a late 2013 model for example.

It is not just about i5 processor. There's lot about design, build quality, portability. I have used atleast 25 brands/versions of laptop in last 15 years. Only Macbook and Thinkpad X&T series were fit for day-to-day business work use. Rest all failed too quickly. Of course Thinkpad X series are costly as well. (btw, I hate apple for moving away from lot of industry standards, but things they do : they do it very well)

Yes I believe there is due to be a conference tomorrow, with a likelihood of new models of the Air and Pro being announced. It doesn't stop the current machines being fantastic though. I bought an Air a few months back and couldn't be happier with it. That's after decades of being a Windows user. I really don't understand the hate people have for Apple products in general - I'd wager a bet that those slating them have never used one, as once you have, you will never go back.

I still own a PC for gaming, but I will certainly never buy another Windows-powered machine for my general computing needs.

£800+ for a laptop? will this feed me for the whole year? If not then it's not worth my time. Apple fan boys this is a deal for you but for the spec it's not worth the money. that's someone's month wages lol on a laptop only that's madness

I'm terribly sorry you feel that way. I'lI be sure to inform Apple's sales team that this is the equivalent to one month's wages for you, and therefore they should change their entire marketing and sales strategy for your benefit - after all they only sell one or two of these each year. I'll keep you updated.

Turn the central heating up.

These are about a £1000 in the apple store so £879 is £120 cheaper

I made it hot for Apple haters

Great tip; will the laptop run faster then?

Laptop is overpriced but the screen is good and I have seen very few good deals on higher spec laptops....

Please demonstrate by way of posting a better deal. Find us a laptop with similar or better specs, including battery life, weight, connectivity and warranty. Cheers

Edited by: "intranix" 8th Mar 2015

A slight chance of a mid gen spec bump (to Broadwell) tomorrow so I would wait until after the event, even at this price.

There currently isn't a small PCI-E SSD connector standard, hopefully someone will decide on one soon as SATA is really starting to hold back peak SSD performance.

cheaper here guys from apple
and no you don't have to be a student just order online plus it has a 3 warranty £859 delivered

Interesting. I wouldn't normally reply to you because you normally just write **** but today I'm hungover so here's my reply...
I see that you recently posted a horrific Dell laptop deal that includes a screen from 2006 and a hard drive from a Commodore 64. Total price £670. Then you consider this cold because you think the tech is old. Hypocrite

my machine is twice as powerful, has dedicated gpu, and is bigger, but is £300 cheaper than this. better yet, it looks better than the macbook. Apple's look is getting boring, its been the same for YEARS. come on, move on guys, technology is rapidly evolving and you guys is missing out big time

Not easily and 3rd party SSDs are not supported by Apple on Yosemite without 'hacking'

Best advice with Apple products these days is buy what you need at point of sale as they really don't want you to upgrade any of their products anymore.

It's not about the hardware, it's about the system. OSX only has to support a handful of products, therefore it's very optimised compared to Windows. Pros and Cons to Windows machines as well as Apple.
