Will probably be a new and better Mac Book Pro coming out in Feb/Mar

Heading says "i7" but spec says "Core 2 Duo". And a MB985B/A is the Core 2 Duo model from 2010, no?
Not sure if hot or cold.

EDIT: Correction, MB985B is 2009 model, but MC373B is mid 2010.

Replace Monkey with Apple and it still applies. Apple products = magical.

I read MC373B/A

Original Poster

it's still an i7..

Hot. Decent price for an i7 Macbook, but still too expensive for me to even consider buying it.

Looks like it's the higher spec version of this discontinued model:

2010 MacBook Pro

Retail price was £1700 when released.

Assuming it is then not a bad deal (the current equivalent costs double) but be sure you know what you're buying.

Not necessarily, since the MacBook Pro was last updated only a couple of months ago but it'll cost a lot more than this anyway. There'll always be a better one about to come out, though.

Feck me, you could get away with any old storyline in the 70's... brilliant

nice

Good price for a brand new one

They had a few Macs on this morning. I got a Apple MC207B/A Refurbished 13" Macbook (Late 2009) Core 2 Duo for £520 before noticing a i5 model for around £680. Doh!!

Those were all gone within 30 minutes or so.

Now for the hard part - telling the wife

tanked

Nice price for a 15incher! Its got OSX10.6 (Snow Leopard) so older spec than the new ones with Lion?

one has just come out a few weeks ago, it'll be summer/autumn now

Good price for a MacBook but still outrageously overpriced for an outdated, under-specced laptop (ie a MacBook).

Still a hot deal if you like that sort of thing.

guys this isn't the sandybridge/thunderbolt model btw

This is standard price for this model. Its not the latest version since its only dual core (new ones are quad core) and this wont come with OS X Lion

Don't say that you will never see it again. Buy this one, give her the £520 one and then she will never bug you to use yours

This is a terrible price for an i7 / GT330M laptop and not even an HD screen. Much better deals to be had.

Standard price was £1700. This is a good price for a brand new one of this model with full warranty. You could re-sell it at a profit.

You'll probably be eligible for a free upgrade to Lion. (And if not it's only £20.99.)

Incredible price for the industry-leading computing device.

Ignore anyone who tells you a new Apple product is coming at any time - nobody knows jack, it's all rumour and lies. 99% of the time, it's wrong.

Let's look at the facts though:
The Macbook Pro range was 72 days ago.
The average product cycle for this range is 267 days.

Check buyersguide.macrumors.com/ rather than listening to people who know nothing.

Hmm, i dont understand, why compare this with an iPad? They are 2 totally different products

OH WAIT, i get it, your trolling and think your funny?

Great price for the 15" - had my 13" for a year now and its easily the best computer I've ever owed!

I have a love/hate relationship with any Apple deal on here. Love the sensible comments from people who have either used an Apple product or had one. Hate the same old comments regarding how expensive it is and the specs are poor!

Fact is this is a great price for a 15" MacBook Pro!

Dell Vostro 3700 17" Laptop - Intel Core i7 | 4GB RAM | 500GB HHD | 1GB NVIDIA | DVDRW

Same processor, much bigger screen, better graphics card, £658.80 (inc VAT).

I make that a saving of £328.20 on this "bargain" price.

Still not a patch comparing build quality and speed, the Macbook will blow this apart.

This is a lovely machine for the money, for those with a 13" MBP though remember it is quite a bit bigger if you use it as a lap computer rather than at a desk etc. I am not complaining, just saying that it wont have thunderbolt if you are looking for it. Screen quality and audio is superb, keyboard is fantastic and OSX, even though it doesnt have Lion, (I prefer Snow tbh) - you can upgrade it for under £30 which is amazing if you ask me.

Definitely not, they were only updated a few months ago and won't be updated again until at least Ivy Bridge is out, which will be Q2 2012 earliest.

Yes there were very subtle updates, including the basic MBP which had the i5, bigger hdd and thunderbolt. Personally I think it is a good thing to keep the line refreshed.

What's this then - Intel Core i7-740QM (1.73GHz)?

Where's the backlit keyboard? Is that a plastic case? Is that a glass trackpad? How's the battery life?

I see it's bigger due to the 17" screen, which I guarantee will be one of those cheap 'milky' displays that look awful.

Seriously, there's a computer out there that suits everyone's needs, be they spec or budget, but don't try and suggest that this matches the Macbook.

Not everyone cares about styling though, which is probably why mac enthusiasts often get a rough ride.

I would only buy a mac for OSX.
They are often built by the same factories as other brands and they use exactly the same brands of processor/disk drive, memory etc.

By all means suggest why a mac is better for certain users or industries, but the mark-up is the main reason why they cost more. Not because they are soldered and screwed together by a superior breed of chinese worker.

^ Agree 100% and lets not mention the resale value in a couple of years time (if you look after it and keep it in good condition). Over 3 years a Mac's TCO is probably actually less than the Dell equivalent!

This is all without mentioning the fabulous pre-loaded utilities like iPhoto, Garageband, iMovie, iCloud etc. Standard anti Mac comments from people that see the ££s and have not used one in anger!

I'm guessing i7-620m, 1st gen dual core i7
the cache (4mb) and speeds (2.66Ghz-3.33Turbo) match
