They only refresh once a year.

The "new" model you are referring to is probably the upcoming MacBook Air refresh with SB processors.

I don't rate these at all.

Unlike some though on here, while I think that Apple computers are rather naff and exceptionally over priced, it is the cheapest of it's kind and so have voted hot.

Good find.

Nice but anything apple is too pricey for a hot deal imo..

I hate apple products because they actually do work and usually have very high quality components (such as battery, screen and touchpad)...damn them...

Exactly. Finding a £999 computer for £836 is a hot deal.
Whether it's a good computer for the price is another consideration altogether. I'm not anti-Apple (I've got an iPod and would love an iPad, prefer Android phones but have nothing against iPhones), but when it comes to Macs, they'll always seem overpriced to me because I build my own PCs. Obviously you can't really do that with laptops, but we use Macs at work and we recently got a new MacBook for £2000 which has roughly the same spec as the laptop I paid £500 for at Christmas. How could anyone possibly justify the extra £1500 for the same spec?

Certain aspects of MacBooks do impress me though - firstly, they're made out of aluminium. I wish every other laptop manufacturer would get on board with this. It's the perfect material to build a laptop out of - not only does it look great, it's light, tough and durable and, of course, conducts heat easily, so the case is essentially one big heatsink and that's a great advantage - a computer that runs cooler will live longer.
And they do use quality components. Sure, other manufacturers do as well, but Apple's quality control seems to be through the roof. I'm always impressed by their screens - even though I have a really great quality LED monitor on my laptop I still notice the improvement when I switch to the MacBook at work. And the battery life... they must have made some kind of deal with the devil to make MacBook batteries last that long - it's witchcraft I tell ya!

I have seen PC laptops with nice aluminium cases and better quality screens but, guess what? They cost around £1000 too!

"same premium quality" is kinda pushing it lol. Toshiba's are definitely better than the odd £300 advent, but from my experience are housed in awfully cheap plastic that loves to overheat. There's also the issue of running windows which degrades and slows down after time regardless of how much you look after it.

I went for one of these MBP's and it does a lot of tasks faster than my £1200 gaming PC (similarly, the gaming PC beats it in other areas, running high end games being chief among them)

Toshiba is quality? has your battery been leaking and the fumes got to your brain?

FilthAndFurry

Which model are you referring to?

e.g. Portege R700 ? Cost about the same but offers much more...starting with warranty length

An excellent price for a MacBook. Not comparable to plasticky cheaper laptops, but not everybody needs what the MacBook provides.

Having used one, the Keyboard is poor and the trackpad is nowhere near as good. Nor does it feel as nice, or look quite as nice (in my opinion).

But yes, 3 years warranty. Awesome.

Yes, that's your opinion - you have right to express it here, the same as myself . I would never dare to 'accuse' a mac-user being capable to appreciate quality of non-apple product, there is only one good product available on the market

'Starting with warranty ' - the list is much longer but I won't go any further as there is no point to talk to apple-brainwashed people...

It's weird, because I'm able to see the quality of non-Apple products when it comes to phones. I use a HTC because they make the best phones (in my opinion).

And the Apple TV is awful.

That's great to see a mac-user saying that

Great price for the base model for those without HE discounts.

I only read these threads for the arguements.
