Voted hot

If it is a rip off, please provide the cheaper price?

well..
512ssd = £300
redtina display = £300
processor i7 quad = £350
Gpu gt650 = £150
16gb ram = 100£
everything else = £200

would be hot for £1400.

0 tolerance = COLD

Interesting way of looking at it, however I still don't see a cheaper price for the product.

Its the apple haters - if you're happy, don't care about them ;0

I notice all of the Apple hate which I expected but I can't see anyone offering an alternative?

Even if I spent £1500 on a Windows machine, I'd have to spend additional cash on a copy of Windows 7 (I'm sure many are with me on this point), it would have a lower resolution display, most likely a poorer battery life (I haven't seen an i7 Quad Core Windows machine with a 7 hour battery life anyway) and it would depreciate like a stone.

Granted the Retina Macbook Pro has its downsides too such as no disc drive or ethernet socket but I can't say I ever use a disc drive or ethernet socket. You could splurge on a non-Retina Macbook Pro too and to upgrade the machine yourself to this spec, you would still pay over £2044.

Apple makes some good stuff but it would bug me if I was an Apple user at the lack of ports on this thing being as it’s a 15.6” screen and weighs over 2Kg so not exactly petite.
Two USB 3 ports + HDMI and everything else require Thunderbolt adapters even for a NIC. It’s not just that the cost is probably high but that it means carrying adapters just for basic things. Another case of form over function for me. Nice face shame about the legs - youtube.com/wat…iHM

Problems?
I've had this Win7 laptop about a year now.
When will I start having problems?

Oh!
I just had to correct a lower case i to capital.
Is that what you mean?
Do I really have to spend an extra £1,700 for a machine that doesn't do that?

If I did, I'd have to remove all the mirrors from my house as I wouldn't be able to look me in the face again. lol

Never mind.
If I'D spent £1,700 over the odds for a lappy, I also would be frantically trying to justify it. (_;)

I don't own an Apple laptop, so don't have the problem of justifying the expenditure, but I know from experience of both systems which is superior and trouble free. I'm glad your W7 is working OK but if it does develop a sudden or unexplained problem (particularly after an update) and MS try to tell you it's down to you or your machine…. don't believe them

Unfortunately you need to add £2.99 to that price, with this it is now a far, far better deal!
Edited by: "Uns" 11th Mar 2013

I own this model bar the 512GB SSD and I gotta say it's bloody amazing, knocks any Windows laptop out of the park, build quality is top notch, extremely fast and easy to use and it hasn't once crashed on me or had some stupid error messages pop up out of the blue.

If anyone is on the fence about it due to price, it is a big knock on the old finances but the machine is really astounding.

Haters gonna hate I suppose after all, I'm sure you all enjoy browsing on your £300 Acer laptops from Tesco.

Haters? I own a imac and macbook. How can I hate? The point is, macs are overpriced and I own 2 of them! Hardware is terrible and outdated for the price. You pay for the design and build. Personally, if you're a showy person buy a mac, if you want to save money for the same thing buy a windows machine...Heck if you want mac os on a windows machine, I'm sure there are hacks about. In this state of economy we need to save money, hence why we're all on a deal site trying to save as much as we can...Do I see this as a good deal no.

My post wasn't aimed at anyone in particular so not sure why you replied back as if I had directed it at you....

This is why the site is stupid, people vote based on their situation not the price of the deal. If I was looking for this laptop and had the cash, is this a good deal? You bet it is, I just saved myself £250.

Ughhhhh this is why I stick to misc....

I'd love to know where you can get a retina display that size for £300. I'll have a couple. Link?

What do you think of the screen? I'm curious about the resolution as I find 1080P too much on a screen of that size so wonder how it is.

If I put a dog poo on ebay and list it at £100 and then re-list it at £50 it doesnt make it a good deal, just makes it a cheaper bad deal and that is what this is

The mac was a present for my mum and the macbook was for college. I only bought a mac for a change, as everyone praised 'em....After I bought my new gaming pc I was very wrong. I enjoy windows more as it suits my needs general browsing and gaming/microsoft word and others. Macs are good for video/photo-editing. I regret the purchase.

If people regularly buy your dog’s poo at £100 then at £50 it’s a good deal. It’s called supply and demand, kinder garden economics.

I still don't see a cheaper deal......

Is this a good price for this laptop? Yes - therefore it is hot. Too many people don't understand the concept of the site, someone could be looking for this mac, yet it is pushed by the wayside by idiots.

Maybe you've just got so used to the glitches and hangups that you don't see them as problems any more or maybe you're the only person in the world who hasn't had a crash, or an "unexpected system error" message, or the machine hang when shutting down, or being unable to defrag the disc after an update, or Windows Live not going to your personalised MSN page after signing out, or…. I could go on but it's easier if you just read the MS user blogs

It runs at 2880x1800 but looks like 1440x900 when viewing anything so there are twice as many pixels per inch, actually working at 2880x1800 is hard as everything is so bloody small. Apps that are made to run with the high resolution such as Final Cut Pro are awesome as you can view full HD video and still have plenty of screen estate.

I CLEARLY said :-

And.
My other Win 7 laptop which is older also has had no problems and neither has my XP netbook which is even OLDER!

Thanks. So are there two modes then for using the Retina display? E.g.

1. Legacy software. Every pixel is simply displayed 4 times (quad mode 2x2) to utilise the quadruple resolution.
2. Native Retina software. Which can address each pixel individually but generally will keep the interface the same size as mode 1 but has higher resolution icons etc. In this case each application decides whether to display the non fixed content at the pixel or quad pixel size. So videos and photos gain from the extra resolution but a word processor will still look the same size and not look 25% smaller.

I’m having trouble getting my head around this.
