This is a bargain! The airport extreme alone is £145 on apple refurbished. So for £4 you are getting a 2tb back up hard drive! £249 new from apple, £215 on amazon

I've ordered one mainly for the router as sky's wifi performance is beyond a joke.

12 months apple warranty

Details and specs:

Originally released June 2013
Back up a lifetime’s worth of memories with AirPort Time Capsule, a wireless hard drive that works seamlessly with Time Machine in OS X. It’s also a fully featured Wi-Fi base station with the latest 802.11ac technology and simultaneous dual-band support. Choose from 2TB and 3TB models.

Apple Certified Refurbished Products
- Quality products, great prices
- Stringent refurbishment process prior to sale
- Covered by Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty
- AppleCare Protection Plan can be purchased
- Supplies are limited

Automatic wireless backup.
AirPort Time Capsule includes a 2TB or 3TB hard drive that works with Time Machine in OS X to create the perfect no-hassle backup solution. There are no cables, and you can back up all the Mac computers in your home to a central location — automatically, wirelessly, and in the background.

Ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Time Capsule gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal. And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

Designed with performance in mind.
With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Time Capsule now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

So is this a router and a wireless hard drive in one? I'm with BT so would I need a modem alongside this, like the openreach one?
Great deal looked at these for a long time, and I have no problems with the apple refurbished stuff as I've bought from there a few times with no problems.
Love mine!!! I am also with BT and I use it as a router as it has amazing reach and reliability. Just plug and play, hardwired straight into homehub.

Yeah you need a modem. I will turn wifi off on the sky router and use the sky unit as the modem

Either ignore the wifi on your existing providers modem/router of go into its settings and turn its wifi off

Super hot !
Refurb hard drive? Good luck.

I have turned my home hub wifi off in the settings and use the time capsule as the router by hardwiring to the home hub. Much better signal throughout the home even though I tried multiple channels on the home hub. Bonus of auto backing up your MacBook or Imac too with zero effort. Excellent device if you can stomach the cost
Ordered, thank you! Heat added

Thanks for the concern

You're welcome. Thought it worth pointing out that a refurb HD, Apple or otherwise, may be a false economy for those with precious data, photos etc.
I got the netgear D7800 modem router to replace my HH5 as it kept dropping out. Can I turn this airport time capsule into an extender and have it in another room?

Yes you can. It's super easy to configure in Airport Utility on Mac, Windows & iOS
Can you create a static ip on this router dns server or whatever
****, out of stock now
thanks op, ordered, hope it's as good as you all say.
Can the HDD backup be used with Windows? Don't have a Mac!
out of stock now
out of stock for 2TB and 3TB
Be just as cheap getting a 2tb USB 3 portable hard drive and an ac56u router.

Want to take the data elsewhere? Just unplug the portable HD. Better in most scenarios.

Does anyone know if this is RAID 1 or JBOD?
Also, if anyone's realistically that bothered about backing up data... They seriously wouldn't be that blindsighted by backing it up on just one device anyway.

Realistically, the price of this should come with apple cloud space for essential backups. But then again, is it actually private?

I think this is a good deal only due to the overpriced nature of apple products. I personally would not risk anything important on a refurbished HD as others have said, and there are enough deals posted here to probably get a 3TB drive and router separately. Still, heat added for find.
is this in stock a lot on there?

Yeah but it's not got an apple logo on it.
3tb back in stock but not really a deal
OOS though still available (for much less) on the US website, if you have relatives/visitors coming over

That's assuming the HDD is not replaced, it might well be. I don't know the answer to that question though.
When I asked customer services when they usually get stock they said whenever someone does a return. So that's like 2-3. Bit like a Tesco's wild goose chase
Fantastic piece of kit. Sure you can get cheaper by building your own frankenstein version with cables everywhere, but that's not really the point!

Have had the 3TB version since it was released and it keeps both of my Mac's backed up, thankfully have had no cause to use it from a backup perspective.

TBH I think most know it's a refurb as it goes to the Apple Refurb Store

Well spotted. Also oos now too.
I nearly bought one of these a while back. Very good technical reviews.

So you are proposing people buy TWO refurbished drives? oO

I like saving money.... for me, refurb drives fall into the "Buy now, pay later" category.

Stop with the trolling.

Yes you should have more than 1 back up copy. It's common knowledge. External desktop hard drive then this also backing up over wifi. No doubt you'll reply with another stupid comment.

This is a time capsule for automatic backups too. The 3TB AT £249 isn't worth it as a few quid more I got a new one from Amazon last year.

Pity it's not a time machine
So someone with a different opinion to your own is a troll and "stupid"? You may or not agree with my opinions on the merits of second hand/refurb hard drives but perhaps you'd like to try and be a little less offensive with your own comments in future.
brought one of these off fleabay last week has made such a difference to the crappy sky hub i was using good tip set it up to run dual networks one 2.4ghz and the 5ghz i got around about 10mbs more speed in the bedroom upstairs on the 5ghz network than the 2,4ghz one also noticed streaming has been great with this router.
