Actual Apple "Certified Refurbished" products are always as good as new quality because all the external parts are replaced and internal parts are QA tested, with new parts for anything that doesn't look or perform "as new".

In any case, it's covered by their 14-day returns policy, and will start a 1-year Apple Warranty from the day you activate it.

Complete night and day difference between this and the eBay / third-parties who only put a cloth over it and have the cheek to call items "Refurbished".

Apple are selling them new for £279, although they can be found for around £260 elsewhere, I think getting it from Apple directly is a better option for a few reasons, both as you're not dealing with dubious eBay descriptions, and potential warranty benefits. (e.g. I've had success with Consumer Law claims on Apple Products (up to 6 years) in store, whereas if you buy Apple products from elsewhere and have an issue out of the warranty period, the genius bar will just tell you to take it back to where you bought it from.)

iOS 13.2.1 has made siri more intelligent, including streaming non-BBC Radio stations, but you still can't ask her to play Spotify on HomePod (although you can select it as a speaker in the Spotify App). How the EU haven't fined Apple silly for this blatant anti-competitive bullshittery I do not know. I was going to hold out for Spotify support but I am weak and £239 is a good price, so I caved.

What are Apple Certified Refurbished Products?
Apple Certified Refurbished Products are pre-owned Apple products that undergo Apple's stringent refurbishment process prior to being offered for sale. While only some units are returned due to technical issues, every unit is evaluated to ensure it meets Apple's quality standards.

Yeah thought that but its before someone chipped in saying 'its the same price in other places' i'd rather go to the manufacturer if its the same price.

Really depends, most companies it makes no difference. Apple specifically have a massive chain of retail stores where you can obtain support in some cases, years after their manufacturers warranty finishes, only if you've bought from their store.
I got one of the really cheap Argos ones a while back. I’m still tempted to get a 3rd at this price though..
are these any good for movies and can they playback atmos from atv ?
I have two and now the lack of bbc support which I was waiting for for ages has been confirmed I wish I had never touched them.

Also: Siri is pants even with Ifttt developer and Stringify (god rest your soul) shortcut scripts

Wish I managed to get one from argos at that price, don’t seem to be coming back in stock. This is a bit too pricey for me, given it cannot really act as a bluetooth speaker and as someone mentioned siri is years behind Echo or Google Assistant.
Is Siri different in the Homepod to their phones? I can use Siri to directly use Spotify following the last updates of the OS and the app.
Expect this end of the smart speaker market to get more competitive (i.e. cheaper) now the Amazon Echo Studio at 190 quid is (almost) here. I'm sure there will be endless comparisons published over the coming weeks. Should be interesting...

Unfortunately although they have added support for that to iOS 13 on iPhone, you still can't even do that on Homepod (yet). It's a shame as they would sell a lot more units if they played fairly with Spotify.
There are probably a lot more refurbished HomePods on there now due to the recent software update which bricked many of them before Apple pulled that update...
Love mine, which I got from JL for £229 as a customer return. Sound wise I'm really impressed, enough that this has replaced my B&W Zepplin. Add in Homebridge running on a Raspberry Pi and I've got most of the automation I needed at home as well via Siri now.

The one thing that Airplay 2 managed to do, which I couldn't achieve with Echo's, is remove the delay which my AV (Yamaha) introduces to my system. Have an Apple TV plugged in there, now all my music around the house plays in sync. I know people had the same issues even with Sonos and Yamaha AV receivers.
Absolutely love our HomePods, two of them together as stereo is just fantastic to listen to.
Just managed to get an Argos refurb £188 to go with apple one
