What exactly is Apple TV for anyway??

It gives you 1 of your 5 a day. Everyday.

Just a quick question/me being lazy.
Are these useful in any way if you've already got a TV/Xbox capable of streaming media from a server/PC?
EDIT: Just had a quick google and these seem useless if you don't already have a way of streaming media around your home network.

Nonetheless, good price!

an apple a day keeps the doctor away

Oh a flamedeer :-)

only really useful if you have other apple products iPod/iPad etc

There are 69 reviews of Apple TV on the tesco site that will give you a good idea of why its such a good product.

It has Netflix and other apps so it'll work fine without other apple products via HDMI to TV etc.

It's just a media box like Hulu etc + Apples own store essentially, seems to get strong reviews which usually suggest it's great

That is true, but the roku is probably a better buy in that case

i thought about this but went for a htpc instead. Run XBMC on it, it's awesome. The windows build of xbmc seems the most stable to me aswell

we have Apple products in this house but I have no idea what an Apple TV is!

It's a very restrictive media player that can run Netflix, Youtube and a few others as well as streaming content from your iPad/iPhone and iTunes.

For people that aren't obsessed with iOS, there are many alternatives available for cheaper that have much more functionality.

The ATV2 is actually half-decent if you jailbreak it and run XBMC on it, although again there are better alternatives for cheaper.

some people on here must have dozens of email and tesco accounts ;-)

Bought mine for 79.00 from apple?

If you have iTunes on PC it will play music on your tv via your computer wirelessly. You can also mirror what's on ur iPad/iphone onto TV. So u can surf the net on your TV screen. YouTube also available if that's ur bag

Cool just asked my mum if I could set her up a tesco account £69. ...nice

if you have moviebox on ur j/b ipad these are essential

tesco oldham extra have tecknika smart tv boxes £10 down from £40:{

I used to want one of these, but I'm finding a nowTV box with plex does everything I need albeit at 720p. As 95% of my content is SD that isn't an issue personally, but will be to some. Can this do anything I can't do in plex? I can already pass media between my android devices and the tv using playto, is this just the apple equivalent or am I missing something important?

HUKD is costing me a fortune over the last few days...!! Loads of great finds :-)

Thank you!

It's not a good deal, it's been cheaper at Amazon for ages. £99 is RRP but not the standard price in most shops (apart from the rip-off electrical stores that should always be avoided anyway).

I'm what would be considered an Apple fanboy, but this product is poor (for my TV needs anyway). Can't play avi or mp4, which makes it almost redundant for many (WD TV live is much better for that, or PS3). My 2nd gen got so little use that I ended up flogging it - however I'm considering getting one purely for the AirPlay Mirroring if I can get one for a good price.

Tip to anyone with a 2nd gen one of these: They fetch ~£200 on ebay and gumtree because they can be jailbroken (ATV3s absolutely can't). DON'T upgrade your firmware. Research it online, then sell your device unjailbroken, and if you really want, you can replace it with one of these for around a third of the price. If you're unsure about anything, PM me as I did this a few months back.

Can Anyone Tell Me What Generation This One Will Be

The latest gen. 3rd.

I use one of these as a media centre for the living room and find it the best solution for me having tried out all sorts of different alternatives i.e Windows Media Center, Fetch TV, NowTV, RASPBMC.

I use Plex to stream my movies off my Mac and I can also Use the Apple TV as a second screen so I can set my Mac playing the footy on the internet then go downstairs and watch it on my TV.

As far as I'm aware there isn't a jailbreak for the Apple TV 3, however there is a hack available that allows you to run Plex on it in place of the Apple Trailers app.

Admittedly, the more apple devices you own the more useful you will find this. The Now TV box would be an excellent alternative at just £8 (with £2 Quidco cashback) as you get a good selection of catch-up TV and you can side load Plex on it to stream videos from your computer.

Not a good deal has been £75 many times during the year.

bit off topic but if your going to do this then why not just buy a raspberry Pi? Surely the point of apple TV is for the software it comes with? unless you can boot into one or the other?

heat added for the price.
