If you're just after a spare, why not try a Fire TV. Much more capable anyway + returns if you don't like

Can I connect my phone with this to watch movies on tv

Original Poster

I can with iPhone, not sure about other makes, I would have thought so.

Don't think this is much of a deal given Apple reduced the price across all stores on Monday to buy themselves some time to develop something proper for this market. This is just to ensure consumers keep buying but Infact there are so many better and more powerful units on the market today. Not voting hot or cold.... Just saying

Don't waste your money buy an android box/stick, fire TV or roku. You'll only get frustrated with how locked down it it after a few weeks!

Not a deal - just the new RRP. Same price as on Apple website.

If you are looking to watch movies and TV stuff you are better with chromecast and download tv cast app. Works out cheaper and chromecast more flexible.

Got this Apple TV3 when it first came out at £99 hardly used it, can't run xbmc on it. Unfortunately it's too much of a closed system with very little that's any good for UK users, even at £59 save your money.

Rubbish product. AirPlay hardly works, takes forever to load anything.

Chrome cast is better then apple tv

Well that's inaccurate. Airplay works well for me. You might find it better if you connect the Apple TV to the router with ethernet instead of wireless.

this isn't airplay, it will be something to do with your network...

So you are suggesting...If you are after a spare "thing" why not buy a completely different "thing".
That's great advice there.

Kevclark1985: it's not inaccurate, there are many known issues with AirPlay that apple acknowledge but have struggled to fix. I have three 3rd gen appletvs and one works perfectly, the other 2 are intermittent in regards to AirPlay. All on a gigabit Ethernet connection. Apples suggested fix is to do a complete DFU restore every time there's a software update as they believe some units don't write the updates 100% correctly.

You can run XBMC on this via iPhone/iPad that has been jailbroken and has XBMC installed on. Works very well actually. And AirPlay has never been an issue for me on Apple TV2

The spare would swiftly turn into the main. This is 2 year old tech at this years tech price.
