No you don't need an iPhone

This is the Apple TV 3 model. Not the new one.

direct link? or selected store only?

/facepalm.

The title says Instore. Ring your local to find out. Bolton store do have these for £30.

Great for online media but unless you plan on having a dedicated PC setup to stream from, they're just a glorified catch up/paid service streamer.

No, but if you do have a device such as an iPhone and/or iPad and/or Mac laptop you can stream anything that is on your iPhone/iPad/Mac to your TV screen wirelessly using this device. A bit like a Google Chromecast.
A typical handy example is I show the family my photos from my iPhone on the big screen TV using this set up, rather than having everyone huddled around my phone. I scroll through the pictures on my phone and they seem on the TV.
If you have an Apple account then any movies/music you have bought on iTunes can be seen/heard via the Apple TV

So no you don't need an existing Apple device but the more Apple devices you have (i.e. more trapped into the Apple ecosystem) the more likely you will find use with this Apple TV product.

Saw these at the checkout on Saturday (Cardiff)

It's quite clear that it's an ATV 3rd Gen by the Box. The 'latest one' is a full black box.

Can't stream sky go

Is apple homekit enabled on this device?

None in Basingstoke, it's old clearance stock so limited to only stores with some left. Ring before you go. Heat from me as it might be an older model but still has uses if you know about changing the OS on them.

None at Coventry, Holyhead Road.

Big thanks to OP. Got one at the Beckton store in East London. There were 2 left at 7pm when I left the store. Get in there quick tomorrow morning!;)

But you can stream BT Sport through their app..

still overpriced in my opinion

I recently purchased one of these from Apple for my daughters tv in her bedroom. She loves it, particularly the mirroring function from her other Apple devices. For this price its a bargain.

wow, very good deal!

I'm a similar age and had to find out about this stuff for my 11 year old son.
Whilst you don't need an iPhone or iPad (or other Apple computer) to use this, that is what it is really for. You can use this as a box to stream video from the internet to a TV (we do this, and use it to receive Now TV, which is quite neat), but you could do that just as well with a Now TV box costing £15. The real use of this is to connect an Apple device (we use iPad and iPhone) to your TV, my son wanted it so he could project games he plays on his iPad onto a screen. It does this wirelessly, and the set up is very simple indeed, but it is irritating that Apple does not just fit a HDMI output like all the other tablet manufacturers so I could have done this with a £2 cable rather than a £50 box.
So, that is what it does. It is another irritating piece of Apple stuff that you have to pay more for, but it is well made and easy to use (like all the irritating Apple stuff). If you have an iPhone or iPad and a TV then this is worth buying at £30 (I'm pretty sure I paid £50 for ours).
Best wishes,
Alan

Does anyone know if you can add the Kodi app to these? Asking for a friend. Cough.

As far as I know, you can't sideload any apps on this. As someone said above, if you have apple devices, this is an amazing device.

If you're looking for Kodi on Apple TV, find a second gen, they are the 'crackable' ones and can sideload apps. They're still very pricey for this reason.

thx op there 3 left at north farm one

3 left in Bradford store about an hour ago

If you want kodi then an amazon firestick is the way to go. This is a good deal if you're invested in the Apple ecosystem.

You don't need to ask for a friend, Kodi and Plex are legitimate programs. It's when you install the dodgy plugins that it gets "dodgy" due to piracy.

waste of money buying legacy tech

not pricy anymore for a gen2, the reason is gen4 has an app store now so all the apps are available, Plex, VLC etc. Consequently Gen2s are down to £40 on eBay.

managed to get one reseved thank you , been after one for a while!
