Not hack as such, however if your thinking or meaning the installation (side loading) of KODI it is in the works (pre beta stages).

Hope this helps, however with everything APPLE there is also a new one in the works too.

HUKD

You can install the fork of Kodi MrMC from the App Store.

Lol, £119 you can buy an actual TV for that!!!!!!!!! Or you a android phone a Chromecast. Hello, Mcfly!!!!!!!

Bit disappointed with the ATV4. Its good in that it has all the major streaming apps ( apart from amazon which isn't out yet) but the games are pretty lacklustre which is usually apples strongpoint.
MrMC (no add ons) can be installed from the App Store, or you can sideload Kodi and sideload add ons, but not all work yet.

The remote is pretty rubbish as well.

Fire TV remote is much better, but fireTV lacks Nowtv app. ( side loading it doesn't work)

I can't see what the fascination with Apple TV is nowadays.

Same £10 off deal at Tesco and in Boost as well. Lovely hardware, Apps severely lacking for now.

I'm still not convinced I feel the need to replace my ATV 3 with one of these

For around the same price the Nvidia Sheild TV + Controller absolutely trounces this in every conceivable way...

I've got one of these with MrMC installed and I'm impressed. Granted the remote experience in MrMC needs some fine tuning but the software has only been in the App Store for three weeks and the developers are busy on improving things.

I was looking forward to the Apple TV massive let down no 4K or ultra high-definition

ive heard a new one is coming out....thats why there is a price reduction by some retailers same for ipad air 2

Agreed the ATV3 is still great for Airplay content and certain streaming content providers but as the App Store on ATV4 gains momentum the divide between the two devices will become more apparent - remember the iPhone before the App Store?

Can you watch PlayBox HD app through Apple TV?

Its not even 4k at this price you better of with a shield

Is there any other way to stream (/mirrorcast?) photos/videos from an iPhone or iPad onto your TV other than using this?
Edited by: "Tuscan915" 28th Dec 2015

If you are an Apple fan boy (says me writing this on an iPad while my 27in iMac transcodes a bunch of movies) then I can see why you might want an Apple TV. However, a Chromecast or even a NowTV box makes much more sense.

I can stream from my iPhone, iPad and MacBook to a fire tv stick using an app on the fire tv stick.

Same as above I do like my apple products but unless the Apple TV can replace my fire tv stick for kodi I don't have a need for one

We quite happily stream stuff from the daughters iPad mini 2 to a TV with Chromecast.
Why you would spend over £100 on this locked down pile of garbage is beyond me.

Even if the ATV app store contains all that is in the IOS app store, I still can't see how that will change people's viewing habit or entice them to do more in front of the TV

Great bit of kit if your household is fully Apple. However for the same price I could build a proper HTPC with a desktop class CPU.

Assuming you aren't using second hand parts I'd be interested in the spec for a £119 proper HTPC

Voted hot as its a good deal.

This is new one, you heard wrong.

Got one for Christmas, really enjoying the app store even though it's only a few months old - Fetch for Put.io is a must! Siri music selection is wicked when having friends over and the screensavers are beautiful.

£119 is a stretch but possible:

CPU: AMD 3850 1.3GHz Quad-Core Processor (£24.95 @ Amazon) - Buy here

For an an extra £40 you could add a Blu-Ray drive.

Might be less hassle to buy an Acer Revo One from Tesco for £149. It even looks like something Apple might make.

This device is early days so there are better and cheaper alternatives (this is coming from someone who owns and loves it). Give a year or two though and things may be very different if it has strong developer support, as that was one of the main things that separated the iPhone from the competition.

The early signs point to that being the case.

They actually both look really good for the price, well done. Don't really see the need for an OS to be honest with things like openelec around.

My apple tv hasn't been turned on once since I bought an Amazon fire box with kodi.
Atv is overpriced for what it is.

Is kodi the only reason?

I'm a big Apple fan, but an Amazon Fire TV is a better option - Kodi easily installed!!
