Good price if it's not being replaced soon.
Is this brand new? Not a return or second hand?
Looks like they’ve mixed up the price of the 4K and HD only versions.
I'm going to buy it from eBay because you get to use voucher codes to decrease the price further
I bought mine from BT shop as used, it wasn’t perfect but good enough for me, see

I’m still waiting for a free all purpose app that works everywhere. Like Prime Video. Got a fair amount of iTunes content but can’t play it anywhere apart from my laptop.

Assuming despite paying for the box it's a sub to watch anything or is there free content?
Other than outer ports, what's the difference between this and the AppleTV app in the Roku stick?

Had one of these and honestly not that impressed. Roku 4K much better. Has AppleTV+ app on as well. £50. Depends if you need airplay as that’s the only reason I can see for needing this. Remote is terrible too.
Great price, but I’m pretty sure there will be a new one in a few months. Really want one too, but holding my nerve.

This is a far more capable device, can be hardwired which can make a big difference too. Plus certain apps only work on this, InFuse Pro for example.

If you want to play 4k rips across your home network, the ATV4K is great and far better than any wireless sticks I’ve tried in the past especially with lossless 4K rips.

One has supposedly been coming for years now. If it’s not released soon i don’t think they’ll bother. I also don’t know why a new one would help unless you want it for gaming and most people have their phones or consoles for that.

Yeah very true. New remote would be a plus - not the biggest fan of my current ATV 4 remote but wouldn’t be the end of the word. And longer supported hardware - although knowing Apple they’ll be a price hike too so heads or tails really.

Completely agree re remote. That said I only really have issues when trying to skip forward or back. But it certainly wouldn’t hurt to do a new remote....knowing Apple they’ll just keep the existing model

What part of current hardware is no longer supported? And yes I can’t imagine a new model comes without a bit of Apple tax on top

They’re still supported now but the next model will likely naturally be supported further into the future. The current 4K model is 3 years old now.

Fair enough but I reckon you’ll see a good few TvOS upgrades for the 4K model.

Again it does support everything that’s currently out there. Even the ATV3 still works well for 1080p stuff as long as you don’t need the ability to install apps.

I’ve got some non 4K boxes around the house that still work very well for 1080p though and only really need the 4K model in a handful of rooms.

You can play iTunes videos on Roku now with the AppleTV app.

Edit: Oh, and on FireTV it seems

Yeah I think playback of itunes media works well on the app. Things start to struggle when streaming higher bitrate stuff across your home network but for general streaming most sticks work well

I can operate the remote well, but the wife struggles. Not sure it its something to do with peoples skin. I would like a slightly larger remote, with a circle touch jog wheel, like the old iPods.
What is the point of this over a £30/40 4K Fire Stick? Just curious as I have Apple TV app on the FS

I would say better apps and integrates well with the Apple eco system.

If you don’t have Apple stuff it’s probably pointless.
Can you watch live TV?

In truth, if you’re just streaming from online services, not a lot. It might be a bit more responsive but in general they all do a similar job. This is nice as it can be hardwired when Wi-Fi isn’t perfect but again most TVs can do that as well

Where these come into their own is when you are using lots of the addition third party apps that can be installed on these and then they work very well indeed. So I for example rip all my Blurays and UHDs to a NAS drive and then stream them to my ATV4K via Plex and they playback faultlessly. Now as much as I’d love to say otherwise, even the most expensive amazon stick won’t do this well.

The only device I know of that performs as well as the Apple TV for the majority of tasks is the NVIDIA Shield and if I didn’t have so much Apple stuff I’d probably have gone that way.

I’d say as well that all my ATVs I’ve never paid full price for. First two ATVs (non 4K) I purchased for around £70-80 on FB market place and they worked fine for 1080p but then when I wanted to start playing full lossless rips across from my own NAS some really high it rate stuff was a tiny struggle. Moved over to 4K device and it’s just so much more of a smooth experience and 4K just works as it should.

I’ve not got 4 ATV4K’s. All of which again I’ve not pid full retail for. In fact I’ve picked them all up as grade B boxed from BT but they’ve all been like new and they came with additional cables in some sort of deal for £109 shipped.

I certainly wouldn’t be without them now and won’t be upgrading for some time as they do exactly what I need for now and as they support Atmos, HDR and Dolby Vision they are going to be great for anything I have for the foreseeable future.

YMMV
Oos?

Via apps, doesn’t have an arial input if that’s what you mean. Streaming only.
The apple software, AirPlay , will be on Roku and smart TVs for free!
They are just trying to sell them before this happens
