This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Not as good at the BT deal earlier this week, but for those who really want a 4K Apple TV for zwift etc - this is a great piece of kit.

From the Apple Refurb Store so you get the same support etc as if it was new - and the item will be "as new" in the box!

My BT one just arrived .....looks new
Many multiples more expensive than a 4K firestick. Any guidance on why? Manufacturing costs won’t be that different.

With the BT refurb?

Sorry, wasn’t paying attention. I’m not sure on the BT deal, was referring to this deal from Apple directly 🙈
Good deal for the 64GB model I guess although I’ve never known anyone need that much storage.

No worries Josh, I know the Apple refurb you get the same warranty you would get if you was to buy a new one. As most of us know Apple’s warranty is brilliant. If bought from BT refurb its probably hit and miss if the Apple warranty has expired or not and the warranty is probably with BT themselves which I cant comment on how good that is.
jouster29/05/2020 11:26

All Apple refurbs have full warranty

Yes I am aware of that, I was asking about BT refurbs

Trust me this is much better than a Firestick. Just faster and works better. That said if just streaming Amazon Prime you might not see much benefit

Depends if it was originally registered when first purchased. My last one came with 11 months warranty

Unfortunately I am out of the country but it's boxed and still in plastic wrapping. It may have said refurb but it's new
johnwillowlfc29/05/2020 11:28

So as per my response to @Joshua_John above then

its unlikely have zero warranty as they obviously stockpile this as they come in and sell them on when they have a number of them. If the lastbatch sold in February, Id expect latest ones to have minimum of 9 months warranty...but as youve said hit and miss as tyo how much that will vary between device

That said, whilst the warranty CAN be with BT,,,your initial warranty is always with Apple and they will sort you out within that warranty period as they would with ANY other Apple product....where you buy it from makes no difference unelss you care claiming under UK consumer law where it becomes an issues with the selling party directly

if the whole box is sealed it is new but I doubt it would be sold as a refurb if that was the case. If its wrapped in plastic within the box..this is noraml I think and shows nothing more than it is new or has been refurbed

This device uses Apple's A10X chip which is also in their second generation iPad Pro. It's a seriously powerful chip and in no way compares to the MediaTek in the FireTV Stick. The same goes for the GPU. Apple's integrated PowerVR GPU vastly outperforms the one in the FireTV Stick. And I mean vastly, if you compare 3D Mark benchmark results the GPU in the Apple TV scores 10-15 fold higher. The Apple TV also has twice the amount of ram and 8 times the storage.

This is a seriously powerful device and yes completely overpowered if you just want to watch Netflix and Prime.

When defending Apple I always feel I have to defend my position by pointing out that I don't own a single Apple device and when buying my own media player I bought the Shield TV Pro.
Apple TV X is rumoured soon for the same price as current models with A12X chip and 64GB/128GB options. Suspect the new 64GB will cost £179 so might be worth waiting if you're not in a rush
I got the BT offer a few months ago and haven’t looked back. Great piece of kit. Mostly watch Twitch and YouTube but also Netflix, prime and nowtv. Yes, of course I could have those apps on my smart tv, and I did for a few months, awful experience with LG tv interface, clunky apps, horrible remote and until yesterday it didn’t have the twitch app available on the LG App Store. I’ve zero interest in android alternatives as my only experience of android was negative.
Get yourself and Apple TV 4K

then its probably a bit overpriced for that when you could pick up a used AppleTV3 which would allow the sme for around £40...but if you are ever going to use it for more, the ATV4K is a great device

the main pull of the newer device will be gaming (wiht he uprated CPu) and maybe new codec support (for the new AV1 codec)

That said, for everuything currently streaming...including for those like myself that stream ripped (lossless) UHDs to their Apple TV via Plex, the current model does everything perfecly well. I for one will have no need for the latest model...thats not to say I wont be picking one up at some time in the future

Yeah of course, I have the current gen 4K from previous BT deal in January and it's great for everything up to date. Just advising those who may not need it immediately as it's likely to drop at a similar price point and will be much more powerful moving forward with updates etc. This will still do just fine for few years to come

Well it depends what yourse usung it for. It’s going to be usage specific.

So for me it probably is worth 5 x the value.

I stream lossless UHD rips from my NAS using Plex to my Apple TV and watch on Infuse Pro. That can’t be done on a Firestick in anyway. Just because it’s not worth it for you doesn’t mean it isn’t for anyone else.

A lot of the people buying them at this price are very happy with the stuff it can do and that’s not just streaming the likes of Netflix, Prime etc.

And if we’re being picky, the 4K Firestick is £49.99 so it’s actually a bit over thrice the price for a far more capable device.

YMMV

The release date wasn’t rumoured but Jon Prosser suggested they are ‘ready to ship’ potentially announcing in WWDC at the end of June or just a press release maybe like iPad, Macbook Air/Pro and SE over the last couple of months

There’s no guarantees with leaks as always but Jon has had a very good run this year predicting things to the point of the accurate release date and even the exact time for press releases for the last couple of things. Apple hates him now and Phil Schiller blocked him on twitter lol

lol just because both are called 4k streamers doesn’t mean they are same.
they are simply not comparable.
you can compare it with Nvidia Shield TV
You really have to be a mug to pay nearly 170 quid for this. No real extra functionality that any other devices for a third of this price.
What device at a third of the price does everything as well as this. Generally interested so I can pick up one. Thanks

depends on how much of an AV nerd you are. Im no massive apple fanboi but.

Frame rate and colour space matching to content is the reason for me, I have mixture of SDR / HDR & DV material I play through MRMC (kodi app) and this works flawless and looks a lot better than compared to shield or fire stick.
But I guess that all depends on the rest of your setup.

Apple movies are higher bitrate than Google's and Apple's Netflix CDN servers are also higher bitrate
