This isn't going to be for everyone, particularly if a Roku is more appealing but it was what I was after so thought I'd share.

When I called Currys to price-match this with Amazon (£178.99) they provided a discount of £27.01, which brought the price lower, rather than matching. This might be a glitch but if not it shaves £27 off the RRP.

NB: You need to phone them to request the price match.

Buy xbox instead. cheaper and comes with 4k blu ray player built in. This is just plain robbery by apple in broad daylight. By making their iphones deliberately incapable of playing 4K, they want to charge more.

Who wants or needs 4k on a phone?!

The biggest problem for me is the inability to download 4k films. You can only stream them.

On the plus side, going the Apple TV route does give you access to very cheap 4k content.

No the biggest problem is you have to buy multiple AppleTV's or buy the same content multiple times because they lock you into their eco-system. If they either had their app on every platform or we had a Disney Anywhere like system the £100 extra over the other devices might make it seem better value (although £100 extra for a better interface is ridiculous, Apple should have put the old ATV at around the FireTV/Roku price point and the 4K at the old ATV price which would have made it much better priced)

They aren't making it incapable, the hardware physically can't do 4K (Like the majority of flagship phones) because it doesn't have a 4K screen (4K screens are produced in lower volumes right now, are more expensive and to drive the screen it kills teh battery)

I stand corrected! And is probably why I'm happy to stick with HD content on Netflix and Amazon Video - which is on every device in the house and accessible to all the family.
Was tempted in the ebay 15% off a couple of days ago at around £121 for the 32gb, so for me this isn't a great deal. Good device though and supports 24p on plex which is a nice upgrade.
Apple....Cold
Apple TV 4K is smoking hot
I know it's a lot to pay for the streaming device, but with £3.99 4k movies, it'll probably pay for itself by the 10th film as opposed to buying the physical disks. Though I'd risk it and order from eglobal if I was in the market for one of these. The 32gb version has been one of its 'in stock' items this week.
I think the 32gb version is enough for most film/basic needs though.
Great price. I recently went from Apple TV4 to 4K and the difference is brilliant. Plus Dolby Atmos films coming in September on the 4K its a good investment.

I decided to go 64gb as there was only about £20 in it.
Why not get a shield at this price point?

SD card slot on back on the older batches. Silly monetising apple. £20 to go from 32 to 64gb.
