Apple TV is a tiny entertainment powerhouse that plays the content you love from iTunes, Netflix, YouTube, and your favorite sports leagues on your widescreen TV. In up to 1080p HD. Just plug it in and discover a whole world of movies, TV shows, photos, music, and more. You're gonna need a better couch.

Apple TV gives you anytime access to endless entertainment. Thousands of HD movies and TV shows from iTunes - many in stunning 1080p - play through Apple TV on your HDTV, and music and photos stream from your computer. You just click and watch. With AirPlay, it's simple to play content from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on your TV.1 And the Apple TV interface makes it easy to find whatever you're in the mood for.

Quiet, energy efficient, and so small it fits in the palm of your hand, Apple TV sits neatly on a TV stand or in a crowded media cabinet. When it's not filling your living room with drama, romance, and comedy, it uses less power than a night-light. And the included Apple Remote makes it easy to get to your favorite entertainment.

Setting up Apple TV takes almost no time at all. Just plug the power cord into the wall and connect Apple TV to your widescreen TV using an HDMI cable (sold separately). Since everything streams wirelessly to Apple TV using your Wi-Fi network, that's all you need. Except for the popcorn.

Great price but it's because a new version is imminent

Imminent = Xmas 2014

Heat for the price, but since Chromecast is rumoured to be launching in the UK next week, I'll hang back.

Can you jailbreak this model?

is this the latest model?

The model is MD199HK/A
I always thought that was a Hong Kong import
I would rather pay £6 more for a UK model from a reputable supplier - it's often on sale for £75

Or you could just connect your computer up to the tv via a hdmi cable, be a hell of a lot more simpler and cheaper.

Incorrect. People need to get their facts right before commenting. And this is a Hong Kong import model.

April 2014 announcement for new model, Xmas 2014 for projected release and sale. "Apple is aiming to unveil the device by April and have it available for sale by the Christmas holidays"

Its much easier to teach technophobes how to use this rather than their own media centre.

Sadly. Apple is no longer the sign of quality it once was. Now the only things that I can associate with the Apple brand and products are Chavs, Sheep and Overpricing for overrated products. Save your money and buy a Now TV box for a tenner, if will do just as much for the average person as this box of wires. Before anybody starts whinging about my views on Apple, I am writing this form a MBPro, one of the few items that Apple can manage to get right, but still vastly overpriced.

If Chromecast launches here at £35, and the Amazon box at about the same price, I expect there'll be a lot of discounted Roku and Apple TV boxes around.

I have this model Apple TV and a NowTV box. Plex app on nowtv means that I hardly ever turn on Apple TV.
I have the plex app on my ipad and used to airplay onto Apple TV but it was forever dropping out.

And how exactly will you AirPlay content from your other Apple devices?

Best price I've seen for one of these but as has already been said a new one is heavily rumoured for Next month, but who knows how reliable those rumours are, last year we were supposed to get the watch and a full television made by Apple.

Also not for everyone as it's apple and tied in heavily to their ecosystem, Roku is a good streaming alternative. For me I just want one to have iTunes match hooked up to my AV receiver, but I'll wait a month just in case.

Isn't that the case with every Apple product

These are amazing even if you don't subscribe to any of the paid-for services. Just for streaming content from your iphone/ipad to your TV wirelessly via airplay. YouTube & AirVideoHD (if you download content to your PC)

Great price. I was happy paying full retail price for this.

No, they're usually on a fairly consistant release cycle. However yes, the ATV3 has been out for quite some time. Still will continue to stream via AirPlay no problem at all though for years to come until full HD is replaced with ultra I guess.

LOL you talk about people getting their facts straight then post to an article on Bloomberg reporting, sorry I mean, speculating, on its release date.

The fact of the matter is, no one knows when a new model will come out. Only Apple do. But its very unusual for Apple to announce a product so far from its release date. Yes they have in the past, but it would very unusual. If I was a betting man, I'd put money on a March / April announcement and release.

How in the world did you work that one out?

poopscoop

lol @ simpler.

Apple fanboy detected.

dunno how anyone can think plugging the HDMI into the laptop is simpler or the best way to do this.
Physically plugging it in is not a chore, but then having to make sure resolution is correct and making sure I have somewhere near tv I can leave my laptop is a pain (and having a stretching hdmi cable to potentially trip over and send the laptop flying).

Apple tv means you switch hdmi channel and a click or two on laptop. Can then leave laptop in a safe place wherever I want...
it's like saying wired internet is simpler/better because I can just plug the cable in instead of using wireless and entering a passcode etc...

matt139

How in the world did you work that one out?

Rather than leave my laptop next to the TV with a normal sae HDMI cable, or have a dirty great HDMI cable sprawled across my living room floor to enable me to control what I am viewing from the sofa, I simply click a logo and it appears, just like magic. This also counts for any other devices like iPhones or iPads.

Magic is ALWAYS easier than physical labour.

Therefore, simpler. Make sense?

matt139

Apple fanboy detected.

He's right though, your statement about 'simpler to use a HDMI' is just daft.

It IS cheaper, agreed, but then we wouldn't choose cheaper, being "fanboys" would we?

vultan999

How close do you sit to your telly mate?

You're gonna get square eyes.

So you're saying someone with a SMART TV, or NowTV, Roku, etc are Apple Fanboys? We just want to be able to switch things on with a remote control.

The fact is most of us have nice lounges and like the TV surrounding area nice and tidy. Not have to carry/leave laptops/notebooks lying around.
