For anyone not sure about cellular I’ve found mine totally pointless expense for past few years. Only once in more than 2 years have I needed cellular when I left phone at home and if I didn’t have it it wouldn’t of been an issue. With the extra £100 cost plus £6 per month the cellular costs a good £250 more for no reason.

It’s perfect for exactly what it’s needed for... someone who does lots of fitness and doesn’t need phone with them anywhere. Many other examples available. If you buy something with no though of how you may use it then yes obviously you may not need all it’s features. Pretty basic stuff.

I find your reply a little harsh IMHO.

I know - its one of the most sought after gadget leading up to Christmas - but the price has been an issue - now finally at a sale price
I was looking at getting just GPS, but how does cellular work ? Do you need to pay for additional sim (phone number) or can you get two sims on same phone number ? Do networks charge much of a premium for this ? Thanks

O2/EE and Voda offer cellular plans for the Apple Watch in the UK - its basically an additional device using the same number - so the same data plan etc carry over but they charge you a small fee for the additional device. Thats how I know of it - maybe someone who is actually using it can comment more here.

hmmm, hold out for non-cellular 40mm offer at circa £330 (outright purchase not BNPL/credit)? Decisions

I use the Apple Watch 4 cellular when out running. It’s great for this. Don’t have to carry my phone.

“alternatively you can choose to have separate Apple watch and iPhone pay monthly plans – giving your Apple Watch it’s very own number, minutes, texts and data allowance” - taken from the EE website

If you don’t know what cellular does or the point in it. Then likely hood is you don’t need it. I think advising people they don’t need cellular just because one person can’t find a use for it is pretty bad advice. Just my point. Never meant to be harsh.

How often do you leave your phone at home? I go on bike rides and hit the gym a few times per week so what your saying is it’s perfect for me? Maybe you think about what you say before saying it.. everyone has this idea of leaving phone at home but how many do it. It’s maybe a help for people who run who don’t take phone but then why do you need the watch instead of some piece n quiet, is it worth £100 extra plus £7pm just fur that?

Your cost has gone up a quid since your first post? So now you don’t understand how cellular works or how much it even costs you. It’s exactly why you can’t advise people to buy something because it don’t suit you. I have thought about what i am saying. Makes complete sense unlike your advice because something don’t work for you.

So have EE’s cost gone up. I said In first post it’s cost me £6 and in last post said it’ll cost £7 because that’s how much ee charge now. Of course I understand how cellular works and I bought it with rubbish advise like yours by people saying how good they are for people into fitness like me, those are your words yet I’m explaining that your advice is total rubbish and not everyone who does fitness will benefit. Also if your not on ee or the other network that does the plan then your stuck with a new number so no one can call you anyway unless you tell everyone 2 numbers. This is a deal site and I’m just telling people that for around £250 it’s not worth it. It’s cheaper to get a new watch every year none cellular than getting a cellular every 2 years.

Didn’t mean to be harsh on you just a bit of banter . Iv no idea how much it costs on EE I’m on Vodaphone. 7 quid a month extra is harsh mind. Thing is tho this deal is a good price for the cellular version and no deal on the gps.
from reading this thread on the possible use cases for Cellular i don't think i need it, plus i understand the battery doesn't last as long with cellular. a good deal if you do though.

I didn't need anyone's advice I was able to work out for myself that having a cellular version Apple watch meant I could leave my phone in my locker and let the watch track data, stream Apple Music and take calls and texts when I'm working out. The cellular option is a bit of a niche, not for everyone but there's definitely a market for it.

Well while I’m working out I can track data, stream music and take calls from any Apple Watch while my phone is in my gym locker and I’m working out. You don’t actually need cellular for this unless your locker room is more than 50ft away and the building doesn’t have Wi-Fi. Maybe some people go to gyms without Wi-Fi or in big buildings so phone more than 50ft away so for them if they really can’t bring their phone into the gym with their towel or live in bad area so phones get stolen then it might help them. I’m not saying there isn’t a market but I’m sure there’s an awful lot of people get this without realising it’s double the cost of none cellular nearly but for not much advantage.

No need for the 'No Brain' Comment, just plain rude for someone who is trying to help others.

Furthermore.

1. Didn't realise you need to pay extra a month (Sorry if this makes me look brainless)
2. Helped me make my decision about whether I actually need it or not.

So thanks for the advice. Very helpful.

Tbf it's pointless in that aspect for you. But worked perfectly for you when in that situation.
It will be great for my son who often doesnt take his phone when out and about running etc in case it falls out.
SO question about the ones with cellular. I was going to get one for the fall detection for my pops as he lives alone and has already had a few falls over the last few years. He doesn't have an iphone tho and theres no point him changing from android now as he's used to it. WHen I went into the apple store to ask about the watch the girl said he would still need an iphone. I don't get why a watch with cellular would still need a fone. surely the point of having cellular means u dont need the fone to call the emergency number when the watch triggers the fall alert?
Any ideas?

Yeah I agree but even your son might think paying an extra £100 for watch and then £7 pm on top isn’t worth it. If you didn’t have the £7pm charge I’d say it’s worth the extra for the convenience of not needing a phone I just don’t think it’s worth so much more.
It’s also good for a night out if you have a habit of “loosing” phones. Personally I have used the cellular feature loads as it means you don’t have to go back home if you forget your phone.

Lots of snowflakes on hot deals must be that time of year. Like I said a bit of banter all in good spirits. Very relaxed here. No offence intended. Obviously come across offending a couple people but like I say was just putting a point across.

I’m not sure why you need the iPhone, maybe it’s because you can’t set up etc a watch without iPhone. He could borrow an iPhone just to do this I guess but the big issue will be battery, without an iPhone the battery drains like crazy and will not last the day. There’s a lot of stuff on the watch you do through the phone so even if you could borrow iPhone or whatever I really wouldn’t recommend the watch without an iPhone

It's just that it has to be paired to an iPhone to even do the setup. In theory you could pair it to your own iPhone before giving it to him. But then he would receive all your notifications and phone calls (because your phone would be communicating over cellular back to the watch)

I don't think there's currently a way to have a watch running without a paired iPhone, even though as you say it could theoretically work. Its a software thing.
Picture on Amazon shows non-UK mains plug.

That’s the one I’m wanting!
Stuck with S4. Shoulda waited few months. :/
Only 44mm so £529 for that
Bought myself a celular model a while ago on EE as i thought it would mean i could go running and leave my phone at home. What a waste of money as only apple made apps can connect to the celular network so Spotify and Whatsapp dont work (which are the only apps id use while out running). Unless you mainly use iMessage and Apple music then its a waste of money.

Cheers.. I mainly commented because people told me how important cellular was for people like me who go to the gym and cycle etc. It wasn’t til I’d bought and used a while I realised it was pointless. Yes it can be handy but is it really worth close to £300 extra over a couple of years? Just something for people to think about.
