I’m genuinely interested in the value/ usefulness of these watches. I’m tempted by the flashy tech but wonder, due to the size, if I would just use my phone for anything other then the time. Have the people who’ve bought them, found them invaluable etc and for what general uses they are good for.

I couldn’t be without my Apple watch. It’s very useful when it comes to staying fit, adjusting music and glancing at notifications. Running 5k a day with a phone on you is a nuisance.

I have a series 6 that records heart rate, blood oxygen saturation etc.

Since wearing it, I’ve realised that I have a low resting heart rate to the point where my GP decided to put me on an ECG to ensure all was normal.

I’ve used to to acclimatise to altitude by checking what my oxygen saturation is and waiting for it to normalise before going up further to avoid sickness.

I’ve been tempted by the Ultra but waiting to see what is released in September.

Why is the Ultra £849. What's special about it ???? :/

The Ultra is gorgeous. Full titanium, better water resistance, better GPS and a bigger battery.

Remember Series 7 is as good as latest series 8 unless you are a woman trying to get pregnant and tracking her menstrual cycle or anticipating a serious car crash on a lonesome road.

CPU, battery life, WiFi and everything else are identical to latest Series 8 but Series 7 is often available for much less, especially for cellular model. The case is identical but it comes in different colours (including dark blue which looks nice - S8 is only midnight, starlight, silver and red).

eg Amazon Series 7 44mm refurbished for £294

Isn't the glass on series 8 supposed to be tougher?

If you want remain connected 24 hrs this is for you. If you want to switch off a traditional watch is for you.

Connected 24 hours on an 18 hour battery

Is this a particularly good deal? Feels like they’ve been cheaper than this on and off for a while

No. Reckon it's a paid ad

I use my watch (series 5) for music on the run. I literally don’t know what I would do if I had to carry my phone on runs with me like I used to do. I also use strava to monitor my runs too. That and making calls and paying for things are other advantages of having one of these too. (edited)

I think you would have to carry your phone?

Exactly this, and especially for this kind of money.

The link sends me to ‘used, like new’ ones. Might be worth adding to the description.
Still, not too bad a price considering Amazon do what appear to be decent guarantees for their used techie watches (I had a garmin which I sent back a few months later ‘no quibble guarantee’ - no problems or arguments when I did).

Is it already possible to listen to Spotify with airpods without the need of the phone?
    colliwag's avatar
Don’t think so. Apple Music only. Only really relevant if you aren’t planning on carrying your phone with you want to listen to music. If that’s the case then you’ll need a cellular and Apple Music.
there’s a great app called ‘Streamlets’ that lets you listen to live radio from you watch too (cellular)

Is it worth getting the one with cellular? Or nope if your not going to get an extra sim card?
    andynicol's avatar
Cellular only works with ; 3, EE, O2 and Vodafone

I 'think' it's around £5 per month extra for the Watch cellular capability.

Is it worth it? Depends on personal circumstances, if you have pastimes/work where having a phone is a nuisance then yes you could see a benefit, jogging for example, can still take calls whilst out and about.

(no extra sim as such, the cellular enabled Apple watches have an e-sim installed, your network provider has to activate it)
