Was speaking with the the guys at Nintronics and saw they had reducded down the price of the Arcam solo bar to £199. Apparently it’s the last couple they have and they going cheap just to finish off the deal. I purchased mine last year at £299 and couldn’t have been happier at that price

Incredible price. I have one of these and it's great.
Omg. What a bargain. Harman trying to shift these. Get the sub as well. Really rocks the house. I paid close to 1K for that combo.

Steal at this price - I also bought this two years ago for £299, shortly followed by the subwoofer for £299.

Isn’t that the year older non plus model although according to the AVForums review a FW update gives you the same voicing features

Hi, sorry excuse my ignorance but does that mean it won’t pass a 4K HDR signal through? Thanks in advance

Correct, unless you have a Bluray player with Dual HDMI's or purchase an expensive adaptor

So would this work with a 4k uhd tv? For normal tv and ps4 etc?

I was lucky enough to get the Arcam Solo soundbar for £150 and the Arcam Solo subwoofer for £100 ex-display from Peter Tyson last year when they were moving warehouses. Sold off the soundbar because the sound wasn't satisfactory, but kept the subwoofer to use in a 5.1 setup as it can be used as a normal sub.

Yes, it won't work with 4K TVs unless your 4K blu-ray player as a second HDMI out for rerouting audio.
To those that own the soundbar, has it got enough oomph or does it really need the sub?

As it's rated at 170Hz - 20kHz yes you need a sub for oomph.

I don't. I'm going off the frequency response only.

You will need the sub of you want decent low end response. Consider the Solobar for mid-range reproduction up. It doesn't really do midbass either.

I've had one along with the Solo Sub for 18 months and the Solobar is generally great, minus one thing, the Bluetooth functionality is flawed.

I use an iPad Mini as an AV remote and after a few hours of use, the Bluetooth transceiver in the Solobar shuts off, meaning it can no longer be controlled by the iPad Mini. The same happens when streaming music to the Solobar via Bluetooth, cutting the music mid stream. The only fix is to remove power from the Solobar, which seems to reboot the Bluetooth transceiver.
I went through a 6 month slog with Nintronics and Arcam to get this fixed. Had 2 replacement Solobars and a FW update from Arcam (v1.20) and none of them fixed the issue. I gave up in the end and now use an IR blaster with the iPad, to control the Solobar. Every Solobar must be affected but I've not read of any other complaints oddly.
The sub's far from perfect too but that's another thread.
Bottom line is that if these are indicative of the type of products Arcam produce, I'm struggling to understand how they got their reputation. Especially when their after sales service is so poor.

Both components do most things very well, but one specific thing for each doesn't perform as it should, causing annoyance.

You don't need the sub, but it does make a significant difference.
Cheers, I have a yamaha 107 which I recently bought and was thinking of moving it into the conservatory and using this one in the main room.

I may rethink this though based on the comments.

I suspect this will wipe the floor with the Yamaha, even without the subwoofer.
Right, set it up using the included mic for calibration and it is certainly weaker than the 107 where bass is concerned. Drax in GOTG2 is not as deep as the 107 for example. However, It is better I feel in detail. Background sounds in films seem more pronounced. Plus I can add a sub at a later date anyway which would be better than both soundbars on their own anyway.

Cheers.

That’ll explain why Nintronics was selling half a dozen of this soundbar with the bluetooth module removed for £99 on eBay.
I was concerned regarding the comments about Bluetooth but I have been using it for the better part of a day and had zero issues. I must be one of the lucky ones! Specifically, I have been using my S8+ Android phone as the remote. Also, I was playing music through it for about 3 hours today via Google Music. Superb reproduction.

If you could update this thread with your findings, it would be useful for my sanity at least. 🏻

Been using it on/off now for just over a week using features on both the remote and the app and all is good so far.

Will definitely need a sub at some point but I'm in no hurry, it is very good as it stands.
