How does it sound!

Probably very good.

Looks like a very nice piece of kit.
Good price for a quality product but not sure of the appeal, an avr with no rears?
Arcam stereo image and psuedo surround will likely be impressive though, could suit if your room or wife won't accommodate rears.
Hmmm a two channel AV Receiver. Why?

Appeal for something like this with HDMI will probably be quite low as you mentioned, no surround sound. But for a dedicated stereo system, I'm sure it'll be cracking.

Yes, I can see the appeal if you couldn't have rears for any reason and limited space for separates
Arcam is a top end brand. But their software is legendarily bad. They release products in such a state that other companies would get slammed for. Arcam kind of gets let off a little because it is assumed that they will eventually fix it. To be fair they usually do but that can take months.

For music?...

Far better dedicated two channel amps for this price just for music

Then why has it got 10 HDMI sockets on it then if it's geared towards music

"Stereo sound with AVR flexibility.

Take all the best features from an AV Receiver, combine with a top quality stereo amp and you have the best of all worlds – the Arcam SR250. Stereo amps are simpler than AVRs, meaning you get higher quality components for better sound, at any given price level. Where they don’t excel is in terms of inputs and features. The SR250 addresses this with a comprehensive HDMI interface, network streaming, app control and DAB/FM tuner. There’s even Arcam’s impressive Dirac Live system for perfectly tailored sound."

Just buy 4 amps and use the RCA outputs to have dedicated Amps for each channel ;). Since Harman Took over Arcam things are not the same anymore. I was a big arcam fan but no real innovation since the take over. Mind you for stereo it is very good. I moved on to Naim now and use Yamaha for AV as the sound is nice and warm and not clinical like most AV amps.
Not like a pre-amp situ is it? Is there a separate power amp available?
Looks a good price for this. Doesn’t look there’s a phono input though? Unless I’m missing something.
Further information as to this and what it can and cant do here:avforums.com/rev…408.Worthwhile reading the discussion comments too, also bear in mind the review is 4 years old and at the price of £2500.Hot deal if this fills your particular niche.
Has anybody here bought this amp? Would love to hear what you think of it if so. I'm looking for a new 2 channel amp that I can use for both music and tv and I have happily used other Arcam amps over the years, so this ticks a lot of boxes for me. Wasn't planning to spend this much though!
